It's quite simple, just get up at 5am and get the miles/workouts in if you are serious. The problem is, a lot of guys my age just didn't have the desire to keep at it.
I think you may be the exception to the age bracket. Most friends/acquiantances I know that have kids have the 1000 yard stare and are always exhausted. I agree, it is a desire issue. But for most people, fitness and exercise is a luxury, not a priority. It also helps that your wife doesn't get too concerned about your running.
