53 US schools made the Shanghai Top 100, UO is not one of them
The discussion about UO's ranking here is ridiculous. From what I understand about the kid's academic prowess, UO has if anything far more academic challenge than he can handle - which is fine - there is a school for everyone - especially in the USA. He was considering Northern Arizona and Villanova. Would anyone be making comparisons to the Shanghai 100 if went there?
I wonder about his athletic future at Oregon. He is a year older than most incoming freshmen, and query how much he can improve. I suspect it in large part depends on how he handles the increased mileage and intensity of a college program like Oregon's, which makes him like every other freshman, except, of course, he is older and appears physically more mature than most.
The only place in the U.S. that cares about track and field and has sellouts almost every single home meet is Eugene Oregon and the Ducks. Why would any athlete not want to go to Eugene just look at some of the world class runners that Oregon has had the last couple of years. Centro,Wheating,Acosta,Rupp and so on. Haters going to hate Oregon will just continue to regulate. Now it's time for the Oregon men to catch up the the Oregon women at the NCAA level.
BFD. T&F is a participation sport. At the Olys, 95% of the people at T&F are coaches, athletes, and parents/siblings of entered Olympians. Texas Relays draws 250,000 people, only 20,000 of whom paid for a seat.
Just think....Jake Leingang and now Cheserek both freshman at Oregon. Watch out for this team in a few years!
You don't have a single NCAA leader for indoors from U of O. So please quit making bold statements.
Good point. 90% of US universities are "teach to the test". Why can't people be happy with a Regular Life. Cheserek still gets a BA or BS degree and gets to live in a town with NO sales taxes. If your idea of college is to live in a God Forsaken ghetto them go to UC Berkeley.
Oregon makes all the sense in the world to Ches and is the only place in the country that gives a rat's A about track and field. No other school compares and and an undergraduate degree is and undergraduate degree so that argument is nil. It was a smart choice and Oregon will be able to do things for him that no other school can dream of. We all can agree on that. He could go any where he wanted and chose the Ducks in the end. He's thinking ahead...
Hmmm...Kosinski, Centrowitz, Hasay, Rupp, Gardner, Eaton, Crouser (brother and sister), Leingang, the Francis sisters, Wheating, Kesselring, Berry, etc...and now Cheserek...all these kids making a huge mistake by going to Oregon to chase their running dreams while getting a bachelors degree at a highly-regarded American University.
What wrong with Long Beach State, Chico State, Portland, Oregon, Nebraska, Reno, Oregon State or 500 other unranked schools in the US? Nothing.
going to Oregon to chase their running dreams while getting a bachelors degree at a highly-regarded American University.
"highly-regarded "?
Please, UO is not "highly-regarded" at all. What are these guys planning on doing after college, or after their professional career is over? Oregon is 115 on the US News Best Colleges list... I don't think that's very prestigious. The school is known only for its sports teams. Cheserek will be ineligible within his first year there.
Back to the point of the thread. He will contribute to Oregon. Given that he is 19, I imagine he may not improve as much as others might. Maybe a bit better than the Rosas and Elkaim before all is said and done

In order, UCLA USC are tops in the NCAA for team championships
In order, USC UCLA Stanford Berkeley Texas are tops in the NCAA for Olympic medals

Really? How does this causal relationship work, exactly?
Sports hate in this case is the result of sports jealousy (and immaturity).
The better the Ducks do, the more the sports hate, due to jealousy and immaturity.
Recently there was an article about what track and running would be like if Nike pulled out all its support dollars.
Nike/Oregon hating would be even worse, as Nike dollar support would devastate the sport.

Shame he won't reach his potential by going to Oregon. AJ Acosta, part II.
AJ Acosta set the school record in the mile at one point. A not unsubstantial achievement.

Totally agree.
And what none of those who criticize Oregon academically make mention of...is the fact that Phil Knights money is also going a long way to improve academic facilities and increase resources to improve programs and hire even better educators.

Under your kind of idiot reasoning, employers only hire students who went to Stanford, Berkeley, Harvard and MIT.
The fact of the matter is that there are tons of companies in ever state where the majority of employees went to the local universities.
HAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!You seriously just compared A.J. well elkaim's PR is 1339 and cheserek's is 1357 and you think he will be a little bit better than elkaim but won't improve by much? Start making some sense in your arguments. Elkaim was not pushed that hard in high school training wise and is going to be world class and Cheserek is has steller PRs from the 800-10k and he is going to be world class.
