Cheserek gunning for Lindgren's 8:40.0 HS 2-mi record

LV (DOB 1/6/93) never even made it to his senior year. He finished his Junior year in high school at the age of 18.5.

Ed C (DOB 2/2/94) was a month YOUNGER than LV when he completed his junior year. He had just turned 18 -- or maybe was still 17 -- when he ran that 8:40 last year, six months younger than LV when he ran his 8:29. Ed C just turned 19 and will not be 20 for another year.

But other than the inaccuracy and the defensive and childish name calling, yours is a very intelligent post.

Verzbicas also came here as a kid, Cheserek was essentially brought in as a ringer as a teenager. Big difference. Stop with the PC "because he was a white guy you didn't have a problem with it." nonsense, one grew up here, the other didn't. one was 18, the other is 19 or 20. one speaks the language, the other doesn't much. sorry, cheserek is a nice guy and everything, but his US HS record breaking is nonsense. why not bring koech over and drop the HS 2 mile record down to 8:06-8:07? he's 19 right? enroll him in a NJ high school!

I can appreciate his wonderful running; I'm not quite as appreciative of making a mockery of HS records. What's the point of keeping them? Not his fault he's in this position though. I hope he has a great career.

Who's L. Verzbicaz? Where is he again? I never liked the kid in the first place. A waist of talent. He shouldve stayed with running. He will go nowhere as a tri-athlete. Not in the media, not on the magazines, not anywhere. Ryun is still the Greatest Miler, Lindgren was just amazingly gifted, and Pre was Unbelievable. But as for Africans coming over here to America and breaking records? American Records should be just that. Born in America. Is it fair that African runners live in their homeland until high school then come over to the states and shatter all the records? Come on? ! really. It has nothing to do with racism. But everything to do with common sense. Is Cheserek even a Citizen of the USA? my point exactly. No Citizenship- NO RECORD! period

If I started listing non-Americans and/or 19 years olds running in the U.S. High School system, this would be a very long post and I would miss more than I list. In fact, some of our greatest T&F athletes, who later became citizens, were not citizens in H.S. I don’t think it is unnatural to prefer a younger athlete and U.S. citizen break the 2-mile record, but in the grand scheme of things, my personally propensities do not matter as long as an athlete is playing by the established rules. By all accounts from the people much closer to the situation than most of us, Cheserek is playing by the rules, he is a good teammate and a nice kid all around and I hope he gets the record. Btw, I hope he breaks the record by a lot to avoid the inevitable comparison of circumstances between Gerry and Cheserek.

What a joke. Verzbicas didn't "look his age" any more than Cheserek does. You cheered for him because he was white.

For the record, I think both were/are overage in HS - with Verzbicas being 21/22 at the time of graduation. A complete fraud.

I know it sounds mean but I kind of hope Gerry keeps the record. It is the oldest high school record in the books, indoors our outdoors. Gerry ran it on an 11-lap to the mile BOARD track in heavy leather spikes leading for nearly the entire race until Ron Clarke overtook him at the very end.

I believe that performance was better than Lukas's 8:29 outdoor record considering he had a personal pacer, a MUCH faster track, and light spikes.

I think Edward will probably end up breaking the record though, he was just behind Lukas 2 years ago who missed it by 0.7 seconds. He will have many fast people to chase and is running on a very fast track.

Lucas and Edward both were/are older then the typically high schooler aren't complete oddities. The two were/are still teenagers in high school and there are plenty of high schoolers currently across the US the same age!

I hope Edward does break the record; however, that is one of the toughest exisiting HS running records to break- but GOOD LUCK Edward hopefully we see 8:34 in his run!

What's the difference between 18.5 and 19?

The cutoff for age to run in Footlocker is that the runner cannot be 19 and when Edward won his second Footlocker title he was age 18 ... Edward Cheserek age is NOW 19 as published in IAAF site: DOB 2-2-1994.

If the talented Edward breaks Lindgren's 8:40.2 HS 2 mile record would be one of the greatest performances in American HS distance running ever!

I'm not sure what Lindgren's race would be worth in other conditions (and you neglected to mention that the Cow Palace was smoke filled). It was an extraordinary performance in and of itself.

LV graduated at 18.

Cheserek is likely 21 at least.

I feel like the Red Diaper grandkids are still monitoring Letsrun and other sites, just as their parents, teachers, and rabbis make them do. Hillel House mandates 6 - 20 hrs a week of trolling. Meaning posting anti-white remarks and lies whenever you can.

No, he skipped his junior year.

Lindgren's record was not on a certified track and most likely short. The guy was good but not that good. He was also not man since he left his family like a coward.
