Cen-tex is exactly right. A company (or university) cannot tolerate one of it's employees having a sexual relationship with a subordinate or someone they hold power over. Have any of the Bev Kearney supporters heard of a sexual harassment lawsuit? It doesn't matter if it was consensual. If the university allowed that behaviour (once publicly known) to go unpunished then they would be open to lawsuit.
Getting a DUI is entirely different. It is not directly related to your job or job performance.
On side note. This had to be directly from the former student. Otherwise it is only speculation and rumor or heresay. At my university it was only 3 years ago there was even a written policy against students dating professors since they are consenting adults.

Actually, no. A coach or teacher is in a position of power over a player or student. Under such circumstances it is NEVER appropriate to have an intimate relationship. NEVER.

UT is within their rights to fire Kearney, but, it really can't be because they feared a lawsuit. I'm pretty sure (I just looked it up) that the statute of limitations on that is 2 years in Texas. The University was not going to be liable.
And I'm not defending Kearney's actions. Sexual realtionships between a person and their direct supervisor should be forbidden. I do question the extent of the punishment, though. As was said above, if this was a one-time, short-term thing and the athlete was not claiming she was significantly harmed in any other way (she consented, apparently) then this should merit a suspension, but not termination. And actually, in such cases this is a common punishment. The fact that UT dismissed her is, to me, indicative of the fact that we're not getting anywhere near the full story.
She was on Paid leave and she Resigned. I think the University covered itself quite well. What grounds will she have to suit her on?
University administrators have figured out that the best way to get rid of someone is for misconduct (call it the Mike Leach Effect). It covers the university legally, especially if you can pressure the person into resigning (as with Kearney). And it actually makes for some good PR for the university - they come off looking like they care about protecting their students and holding coaches/faculty accountable. Of course, there has to be some kind of allegation for the university to work with, but with the proliferation of rules regarding conduct, and society's increasing sensitivity to such matters, it's almost impossible for any coach/professor to avoid any allegations/rumors indefinitely.
If they wanted to keep Kearney, they could have kept Kearney. Since they clearly didn't, this is the ideal way for them to get rid of a (very successful African-American female) coach.
Whether Kearney deserved to go or not has nothing to do with this.
It's increasingly the same in the academic portions of universities as well. I saw a well-published guy get denied tenure over "concerns regarding the appropriateness of his interactions with certain female students." The real reason? He'd pissed off the two most powerful people in the department ... both of whom who were married to former students/employees of theirs. But by ascribing their decision to concerns over conduct, it basically made their denial bulletproof in terms of any appeals, legal action, etc. (He's now a full prof at a better institution, so I think it worked out well for him.)

You can be a senator or congressman though.
Since she was in the accident her teams results have been going down. Fewer top recruits, fewer high profile runners. Add that to the fact that she is an arrogant beotch? At this point Texas could have it all on the men's and women's side but they don't. The Aggies are kicking their arses all over the place with results. Bubba Gump and a gay coach. Austin or sheet hole College station? Mac Brown or Sumlin and Johnny Foosball? You make the call.

A&M just won its 4th bowl game in the last 20 years. It's a bit soon to be declaring them a dynasty. They've still got a very long way to go. Especially after the Dallas Cowboys hire Sumlin after next season and Johnny gets drafted by the Jets.
It's amayzin to me that UT, a school in the middle of nowhere can manage to win numerous Olympic Track & Field and IAAF Outdoor medals. I mean UT is not located in a major media town yet UT still collects a huge haul of international medals.
The time frame suggests she was rehabing from the Michelle Freeman crash around the same time she was in this relationship.
I wonder what prompted the delayed admission by the other party? A guiltdriven confession does not seem to fit. Something out of spite or for retribution perhaps?
what's amayzin to me, is that UT is the biggest school in the biggest talent pool in the country and competes in multiple sports at a pretty mediocre level. Sure, they have medals to boast, but so does Barton County Community College.
Hell, the football program has two conference titles since the inception of the Big 12. Pretty sad for a team that slogans "we don't recruit, we select".
She was making $270,000 a year and was about to be given a raise to $397,000. That is more than three times more than most professors make in Texas at public universities.

Regarding the message about the family, video and the bedroom, there was a similar message on the other thread about this. I am not sure what it means, but it sounds like someone is pissed off. I wonder what happened to cause the student to bring this up ten years after the affair. Also, why would the coach quit so quickly? Something else is going on here, and it will all come out eventually.
There was something about a car accident mentioned somewhere too. What's the deal with the car accident, illegal videos of family members, names being dragged through the mud, etc?

They open themselves up to a lawsuit from the next student she diddles if they don't remove her. That's why legal takes a strong stand.
