Greater muscle mass = greater propulsion = faster sprinting
Solinsky is without a doubt a faster starter (from blocks), faster in acceleration, and faster top end sprint speed than Rupp.
Solinsky is also taller, probably with a greater inseam.
Its not even close in a sprint, Solinsky would win, easily.
Just because he doesn't finish as fast or gets outkicked doesn't mean he's slower when both are fresh in a short sprint.
This advantage against Rupp rapidly falls off after 400m though.

There are many stupid posts in this thread so I am not going to respond to anyone specifically, just sum up a few thoughts after reading through the posts in the thread thus far.
Rupp would beat Solinsky at 300m.
There is no way Rupp has 48 second 400 speed. Daniel Komen was a 3:29 1500m runner and there was no chance in hell of him breaking 50. Ever.
Rupp has 50.xx 400m speed at best.
Rupp has better speed than Solinsky.
There are plenty of 5k/10k guys with sub 50 speed. Not many have run sub 27 though.
Rupp closes in 52-53 in 5k and 10k races and no one believes he can break 50... How exactly does one make that coclusion.
Also I would contend that Rupp might have more 400 speed than Komen. Komen is like a German Fernandez. A super-efficient runner, but I've never seen him kick the way Rupp does.
I think you are greatly underestimating the speed of Fernandez and Komen. Komen had better top end speed than Haile.

rupp has a faster 1500m PR than solinsky (why is solinsky still relevant?). rupps 10k time way better than his 5k time because he hasn't ran a time trial 5k. saladbar even said rupp can run the 100m in under 11 while starting from a standing position. i'd go with rupp

Yes, he couldn't break 50
He closes SLOW 5k & 10k races in 53 seconds.
Bekele did the same, and there is no chance in hell of him breaking 50 seconds.
People can't comprehend the fact that endurance monsters can run within 2 seconds of their best 400 at the end of a slow race.

Ok, this is ridiculous. Rupp is faster than Solinsky... Why are people still on Solinsky's train, he's garbage. Rupp drops 52-54 at the end of his 10k RACES, clearly he can run sub 50. How many sub 3:35 guys can't run sub 50?? Is it even possible to go sub 3:35 if you can't break 50? Also, saying Daniel Komen can't break 50 is just laughable, 3:29 and you think he can't break a 50 in an open fresh 400m race. while it may be true that there are few true 10k/5k runners that can break 50, I'm sure a lot of the top 5k/3k/1500m runners could break 50, and certainly going down in distance from there, an even more significant portion.
we can't act like it is very rare for hs middle distance runners (=college/pro distance runners, as they all move up) to run sub 50. my lousy hs had two 800/mile runners with sub 50 open pr's. (their 800/mile pr's were 1:54.8/4:18 and maybe 1:57).

Why are you being so condescending? You have no idea if those guys have sub50 speed or not. The issue is entirely debatable. Haven't Geb or Bekele closed races with the last 200m in like 24 seconds? If so, then that clearly points to the possibility of sub 50 capability. Relax.
