That's silly. A whole season? I ran a number of my PRs (and a fair number of workouts, good, decent, or bad) directly/shortly/the morning after sex. Ran a few lousy races afterwards too, to be fair.
Granted, I know a guy who would go long stretches before championship races without sex, alcohol, or masturbation. Said it make him so angry and on edge that the focus came easy and he hated everyone enough to tough it out. It won him our Region in Cross Country one year, too.
He only really cared about the varsity team, and the guys all respected him so we were willing to listen to him. He was an awesome coach, we got second and nike my junior year and we were inside the top 10 my freshman, sophomore and senior years. Our whole top 7 was very dedicated so the two or three guys that actually could get laid if they wanted to didn't.

That's ridiculous. Marty Liquori, in his book On The Run, talks candidly about having sex with his wife in his hotel rooms during the day when he became bored waiting for evening races.
He estimated the calories that he burned from having sex and removed the equivalent amount of strides from his warm-up to even it out.
Why would anyone on this board even worry about this topic unless it was changed to say..
"Will having sex with myself before a race hurt my performance?"
Would having sex during a race impact performance? Certainly it might slow you down in stretches, but I could see the benefit in a strategic, championship-style 10000.
As a letsrunner I would never actually have sex with another person, but I used to abstain from "self-indulgence" in the week of a big race. Probably more of a superstition than anything, but once you have a good race off of this program it becomes a habit.

A huge amount of high school runners are under the impression that not jerking off the week before a big race will have a positive impact on their performance.

I'm surprised nobody has said this yet: For me, I felt like sex negatively impacted my races if I was really going hard with my sex, I mean really thrusting. My hamstrings and butt would be slightly sore, like doing lower body circuits. It was never the testosterone or focus for me. Sometimes you get caught up in the moment and before you know it you are in a crazy position and next day I would wake up like dammit, I knew I shouldn't have gone so hard. So in conclusion, I don't have sex only the day before. Two days before is fine, however. Also my gf is a runner and, therefore, she doesn't like doing any work the day before b/c all the bouncing (you know what I'm saying) really gets those important hammies.
My hypothesis is that humans are genetically predisposed towards reproduction, and that pursuit of reproduction subconsciously motivates nearly everything we do.
I disagree. If that were true, there would not exist an industry worth untold billions of dollars to stop women from conceiving.
Simple solution without the hassle of going on the hunt for some strange (for those singles out there)... just rub one out to calm the nerves and get a good night of sleep.

I’m okay with mutual oral the night before a big race, or a few nights before. But no intercourse or anal intercourse for several days before an important race. Don’t want to deal with any soreness issues.
Guess all our bodies are different, but for me its a complete disaster. Its like all my muscles have been taken away... a total loss of chi!
