But you just described at least half of the teams competing this year at nationals. There must be some other factor contributing to the team's success.

I heard he is a silent commit to Oregon
Isnt he too old by NCAA standards?
Cheserek will be 19 when he starts college next fall. So, he is a year older than most of the freshmen, but I believe the NCAA will allow a person to compete Div 1 until they are 23. If that's the case, he will be able to compete for all four years, unless he redshirts (unlikely given his talent).
You have til the age of 25 to use up your D1 eligibility within certain guidelines.
Edward Cheserek is only 18 the same age of most seniors, not everyone guaduates high school at age 17.
Yeah, sure. Guys like him and Lukas were 16 as freshman. I'm really tired of hearing about Freshman records they set. They should be eligible for age group records, but not Freshman records. Most freshman start at 14 and turn 15. Seems like just about everyone holds their kid back to gain an advantage in sports... Pathetic!
Cheserek not running footlocker! he is not listed on entries and entries closed last night guess they found out he was 20 from what i heard
I think he might already be 19, in which case he will be turning 20 this April, if his birthday is in April as someone said, because this article says he was 18 last March (pretty reputable source):
If he is 19 going on 20, this whole HS record thing is a bit of a joke. He's good and everything, but he's a minute behind some 19-20 year old kenyans/ethiopians for 5k...
He's 18 going on 19 as far as I know.
To whomever asked who screws up with Kenyans-
Corey Ihmels at iowa state. trololololol. he can't ever get any of his male foreigners to do anything!

Well, perhaps not all competing for them this year at NCAA's... but their roster is stacked:
Huryz: 1:52/4:06/8:49
Moussa: 4:10/8:49/14:05
Bosshard: 9:11/15:12
Goodgder: 4:14/9:12
Dowdy: 4:15
Thoroux: 4:14/9:13/15:09
Stevens: 9:18
Murphy: 9:14
Kilgore: 14:50
Winter: 1:52/9:09
Pearson: 9:02 (would have broken 9 at NJ MOC but it was suspended with a lap to go)
I'd say all these guys were serious HS studs.
Hurysyz and Moussa are the only REAL studs there. And really how many guys break 9 in the 2 mile these days. A TON! so the 9:11's to 9:18's are really not that impressive. You left outVan Halen who ran 9:20 in high school and was all american saturday, ran 8:37 in the steeple. I would call that some serious progression.
I could see Cheserek taking a good look at NAU - he is friends with Futsum and the team is doing great.

How do you know he'll be a year older? What if his birthday is in the summer?
IAAF.org has his birthday as Feb 2, 1994. So that makes him 18 as of today and he will turn 19 in February. Trust me, IAAF has no problem with leaving somebody's age blank if the proof is not there to support it.
A thought on Wetmore though. Anybody who runs over 100 miles/week hard everyday will get fit. It doesn't take any coaching talent to tell your kids go blast every run and run 100/week. Most of them get hurt and the ones who survive run great. Its simple and it works. He doesn't need a bunch of extremely naturally talented runners to succeed. Remember hard work > natural talent once you leave the high school scene.
He is 18 according to the crayon written birth certificate he brought with him from Africa. By his technical age he is eligible and his records are fine, but by his birth age...
Isn't this guy a little too old for college?
Time to go out and get a REAL job old man.
9:11s and 9:18s arent that impressive? Alright d!ckbag.

From what I have observed it seems like a lot of this is true. They train really fvking hard there. Some get hurt like Bosshard some run great like Hurysz. Either way you are in denial if you do not think Wetmore gets some amazing recruits.

This year 9:18 would have been 2nd to last at arcadia. 15 guys broke 9.
http://www.runnerspace.com/news.php?news_id=24431&eid=62so no, 9:11 and 9:18 are not that impressive. Bosshard is a 13:40 guy now, so i'm saying that the guy who said wetmore just has a bunch of studs and the homegrown talent stance is disingenuous is wrong. 9:11 is no longer considered studly on the high school scene.
I'm not shitting on those guys and their high school times, just saying that none of them are high school stars (with the exception of moussa and jake h)

Actually I think most people graduate at 18
