You must be absolutely out of your mind if you're considering taking that drug. I would strongly encourage you to do a lot of research first.

I took it in high school before my junior year of cross country. It significantly improved my acne problem. I had it real bad. I was supposed to be on it for 5-6 months.
Running was fine at first but soon i would find myself trying to get in 2 miles only to feel my legs extremely tight and sore. Perhaps it was the joint swelling, i'm not sure. I went off of it right before the season began and immediately started feeling better running. No side effects to this day, face clear as crystal.
I don't recommmend taking accutane, or any other kind of antifreeze when running, as that would be very dangerous to your health.
Acne can lead to severe depression so I understand why are you considering it. I had severe cystic acne for awhile and it was painful both physically and emotionally. I only got rid of it once I eliminated dairy from my diet. Please try this before you go on accutane, it will improve your health tremendously. Plenty of research supports this. The assumption that diet and acne have no correlation is completely bogus.
Keep your towels and pillowcases clean.
Don't wipe your face with the same towel you use for your hands (or any other body part).

You are very right. There is a strong correlation between acne and diet. If one is disciplined enough to clean up their diet, and by that I don't mean become a vegetarian, then substantial improvement can be made in cases of acne.
If you are a serious runner do not take this drug. My wife got it for my son with out me knowing it looking into the side effects. He went from number one if his team as a sophomore running a 16:30 5k to running 18:00-19:00 and looking like he was about to fall over and die coming in. He is finally off it two weeks ago and took all a month of from training. He has be doing distance work and we tried to run a mile to see where he was at. He ran a 6:10 mile and fell over at the end..,that from running a 4:28 as a freshman. This erg has had something to do with his downfall and I can only hope it gets out of his system. I just do not want anyone else to go through what he has.
I was on it about 15 years ago. My acne was very bad. It cleared my skin up perfectly. There are serious potential side effects with this drug. I didn't get any of them but some people may. However to me the benefits outweighed the risks. I had scarring along my jaw and my social life and self confidence were very low due to the acne. To me it was worth having my running suffer for a few months - there is more to life than just running. I wanted to feel confident in my job, with girls, and in my life in general - my acne was that bad and I tried diet, OTC treatments, antibiotics, etc. Nothing worked like Accutane. You may try a month of it and see how it affects you - you can always stop. But for those of you saying your running was negatively affected, well, like I said, there is a lot more to life than running.

I agree. I am on accutane now and have been worried about consequences to my runnjng. But I'm on month three with no side effects other than dry skin and my running is completely normal. It took me a long time to decide to go on accutane but so far, I am 100% glad I have even if it does start to effect my running since it has improved my mental health immensely.
I'm assuming his skin cleared up, what does your son think about it? Was the "downfall" worth not having acne anymore. He is the one who had to live with bad skin and maybe it was worth it to him. I know you want the best for your son but the tone of your post was kinda crazy overbearing.
