Now to the idea that Floyd could run sub 9 for two miles. No way in the world this is true. I say this based on 3 situations I have seen with 2 other world class endurance athletes and 1 state champ. One was Lance Armstrong. Huge vo2 max trained for running and Triathlons after being the best probably doped cycling ever. Could he run sub 9 for 2 miles? nope. Another being an Olympic rower that a couple of my friends trained with before he did Boston. Could he have broke 9? No way! And these are two examples of world class endurance athletes not boxers. Finally and probably most relevant to this discussion. Darwin Price former golden glove boxer and multiple Missouri state champion. He ran xc and track in high school and couldn't break 9 off of specific training and might be the best runner/boxer ever. Is it possible Floyd could be running 6-6:30 pace on his runs. Sure. But off the training he is doing to run sub 9 for two miles is pretty much ridiculous.

1. Lance is like 40 years old
2. Lance used to run a 30 or 31 for 10k back in his triathlon days. That could be sub 9 territory.

In the grand scheme of things, a sub 9 3200m is not good. It's over a minute slower than what the best can do. I don't think it's ridiculous that a world class athlete could run sub 9. Especially if he weighs as much as a runner but is a lot stronger. And especially if he runs 50mpw.
If skinny, weak high school boys can run sub 9 on 50mpw, then surely Mayweather can. Think about how much additional endurance cross training he's doing.
I'm just gonna throw this out there:
I've run 9:17 for 2 miles, 4:17 for the mile, 25:45 for 8k, and competed in boxing within the amateur ranks at middleweight.
I ran 16:30 for a 5k 2 weeks before a fight this summer wearing basketball shorts, training shoes, and running 5 miles x 3-4 times a week. I nearly won the race off this training.
I do jump rope for close to a half hour everyday & sparring/competing is way more intense than running ever has been -- think running sub 2 for an 800, repeatedly, while someone tries to knock your head off. That's how the amateurs are anyway (3 x 2 minute rounds). The pros fight a lot slower and more evenly paced.
Floyd Mayweather is an elite athlete. I'd believe a pro boxer (who fights near their natural weight and doesn't yo-yo diet) under 165 lbs. with supreme conditioning (like Mayweather) could probably run sub-elite level times.
Anyone who has watched these fighters should know Mayweather is several layers above Manny P
The only boxer I know of who's run elite times was in the late '80s-early '90s and it was an African named Benson Masya. He ran 28:30 or so for road 10Ks, when he quit boxing to become a professional runner. At the time, you could do OK road-whoring as a 28:30 type guy. I think he ran Crescent City in New Orleans one year but I am too lazy to Google it. I think he was a ranked boxer but not at the top of his game. He was in the 125-30 pound weight class.
Floyd can NOT run a sub 9:00 two-mile. OP can NOT run a 1:47 800, he is trolling and trolling well. I'd say Floyd is a 31:00 type who can maybe go a bit under 9:30 AT best, and that's being optimistic.

That's what I wonder every day too. I've been running 70-90 mpw for half a decade and can't crack 15:00 for the 5K but these skinny teenagers can. They must all be on EPO.
because being scrawny is a condition of running sub 9 and those scrawny high schoolers are selected out for their distance running ability above tens of thousands of others all concentrating on distance running, whereas boxers do a wide variety of very tough training concentrating on quickness, agility, and resistance to muscle fatigue, which does not translate to distance running. I wrestled for a year in high school and the training was extremely difficult, but the tiredness from the wrestling was from intense muscular strain primarily, not from the fact that you were moving around that much. Boxers move around the ring but never run. Their training runs, from what I've seen, are very slow. So, if the only category of boxers to make good distance runners are in the sub 150 lb classes, that doesn't mean that with all the weight work and other training they'd be at all likely to run the spectacular times the OP mentioned.

what the hell? If a decent high school who has only put in 4 years of running specific training can crack 9 minutes in 2 miles, im confident floyd could. You seriously consider 8:50 to be pro runner status? 8:XX could mean 8:00 to 8:59. Just getting under 8 is not pro runner status. Sub 8:30 maybe.

you're missing the point that supposedly Mayweather DOES do endurance and speedwork training for running. How have you made it this far into the thread and missed out on that?
My point is that he is doing the same training PLUS the additional conditioning work that comes from boxing. I see no reason why that points to a reason why he shouldn't be able to run sub9

This, and he is basically doing a running program with the addition of boxing. I did abit more research and Kelly pavlik apparently has a 10km Ph of 32min. I don't know what the equations are for higher distances in relation to shorter distances but for me personally at 32min 10km would he alot harder than running low 30s for 10km.
Further Oscar de la hoya has been quoted as saying he runs 10miles in 60min training for his fights.
I wouldnt be surprised if these guys could have been pretty good MD runners but why would you if you can make 10-40millon per fight boxing.
