Good responses to your post. Continue being diligent about sorting this out for your son. I got EBV as an elite (mile time starts with a 3) and it really gave me the ups and downs, which was frustrating, as I'm sure you're aware of. I did run some PR's after diagnosis though, so he can too, but I did take time off, nearly 1year.
Keep searching for a good, thorough diagnosis. Once you know what he might be dealing with I think the frustration should subside. Consider the old school guidelines: take a day off a week, have one or two down periods each year as well. These young guys are motivated but often their bodies are not ready for all the training that we know of these days.
