So much for the power and prestige of Hollywood TV and NBC Los Angeles. Ha ha. L.A. SUCKS.

“The audience number for the London opening ceremony is a great early sign that our strategy of driving people to watch NBC in prime time is working,” said Mark Lazarus, chairman of the NBC Sports Group."
NBC's business model is to "drive people" to watch primetime ads. The event itself is incidental. They would tape-delay a presidential assassination or a hurricane if they could get away with it. The IOC lets this happen because of the money that gets kicked back to the bureaucrats.

They don't "let" it happen. NBC owns the U.S. television rights and they can do what they want. It's good business for them to show the prestige events in prime time. They paid big bucks for those rights and they are trying to make a profit.
Why don't they show it live and then show it again later? This is crazy stuff. I'd say the people of North Korea have better coverage.
I'm in the UK and as already mentioned, the amount of live coverage is unbelievable. I feel sorry for you guys. This is the Olympics ffs! NBC has been trending on Twitter all day about their shitty coverage so you can't really say that Americans don't care.
Check out wiziwig.tv if you're stuck for a stream.
The IOC specifies the terms of the bid package. They could do a better job of ensuring the spirit of the Olympics isn't crushed by rampant commercialism. But that would mean less money to spread around to the national committees, many of which have more bureaucrats attending the games than actual athletes.
Complete bs. NBC has shit the bed in terms of coverage. Not airing the openeing ceremony live, not airing phelps & lochte live, basically showing a highlighted version of all the events and also doing track no justice. At least I can take joy in knowing that they will lose 100 millions dollars airing the olympics. Just wish they didnt take it out on the American audience.
Uh, NBC is making everything available live. What's all the fuss about?
Thanks. Do you have a link per chance if one is interested in the women's events?

UPDATE.
Here are the events NBC will NOT be showing live.
100m Final
3000 SC Final
400m Final
1500m Final
800m Semi (last chance to see some americans run)
800m Final
200m Final
5000m Final
Again, NONE of these will be live
NBC will be showing LIVE
10000m Final -> 3:15 PM US central
Mens Marathon -> 5 AM US central (no rerun)
I excluded women's events and other events that us distance runners don't care about.
It's N/A from NBC at least.
As people have stated. Everything is live either on tv or online. nbcolympics.com
Hook your laptop up to your TV if you want to see it in 55in of HDTV. There is a little bit of buffer, but at least its live.
I used this: http://www.nbcolympics.com/tv-listings/index.html (go to Full TV Schedule) side by side with this: http://www.london2012.com/schedule-and-results/
Thanks very much.

you guys are idiots. Just watch it online. Hook it up to your TV. This is 2012. NBC is awesome for showing EVERY event live online. If you know how to use a computer, you can get it online.
Morons.
Though the technology already exists if you have your home entertainment system set up correctly, by 2016 or 2020 it will be easy to push the live internet stream from your computer to your huge TV, selecting in advance the events you want to watch, with a reminder on your mobile if you need it.
Now, if they can just perfect the technology to remove the crappy NBC commentators and insert someone who knows what they're talking about, the experience would be almost perfect.
NBC will show every round of the 100 ad nauseum even if it isn't live. They probably won't show the 1500 final at all if an American isn't in the medal hunt. Did they show the 1500 final in 2008, I seem to remember that they didn't.

A lot of Americans choose not to subscribe to cable TV or its equivalents. I would pay for an online Olympics package similar to what Universal Sports offered for the Worlds last year. But that option is not available.

Olympics are so corporate now I cant wait for the televised stories about families and sh!t and hours of commercials.
Fnck the London Olympics, this sh!t sucks, even before the athletes take the stage. I'm so glad athletes work their tail off to be outdone by commercials and sponsorships. This is ridiculously boring, I'd rather watch a televised high school cross meet.
Final conclusion:
You guys should watch the Olympics online. You would have to live under a rock not to find out ( by accident) if Bolt wins or not before 10pm EST.
There will be no such thing as a spoiler (unless someone here invented a time machine) on LetsRun, as we will assume that you guys are watching online...
The Internet is a late 20th century thing. NBC is holding on to a mid 20th century model...
If you want to stay in the mid 20th century, stay off the Internet and away from people that have access to the Internet in the next couple of weeks (yes, it means you need to find a home under a rock somewhere). For others, find a solution to get the best visual effect with an Internet stream...
Enjoy...
Does anyone know a way to watch the BBC, Canadian, or other streams online? They're supposed to be much better about everything than NBC.
I have already connected my droid to my TV via HDMI cable and watched several events without any problems. You can bet I will be doing the same for all the events listed above.
