Do you miss your old running routes?

I miss my old routes quite a bit. After college, I lived in the same area I went to school (Western Mass), which was flush with many parks and trails not too far from my housing. I'd take the short drive and run in a different park each day of the week. Also formed a lot of interesting cycling routes. At 24, moved back to South Shore and the last eight years have not been quite the same, although there are some decent spots here, too. But running in a beautiful place or nice path just makes the run so much more fulfilling, especially on your pure mileage days. I have been thinking quite a bit recently of making the trek back just to do some old school running/cycling for nostalgia sake.

Love the routes I do now, but definitely miss the routes I used to run back in HS. My old coach used to name those routes, won't ever forget "The Country Gentleman" (long run out in the middle of nowhere), "The Educator" (route went past about 7-8 schools), and "A Walk In The Park" (route went through the biggest park in the area).

When I first moved to Chicago I REALLY missed St. Paul, MN, as I lived in a shitty (at the time in 1992) neighborhood in Edgewater at the end of the lakeside path. The only way to go was south and back, whereas I had endless varieties of routes to run in St. Paul and Mpls, and much lighter traffic on side streets.

One route in particular I'm fond of because I had the best workout of my life. We ran 4 miles to Lake Como, and did two 2 mile tempo runs around it. I felt so good, at about 5:05 steady pace (significantly faster than my XC prs), and felt like I could go faster.

It's interesting to move just a mile or two within the same town so that your old and new routes overlap. I've done that several times. At one point, I moved about a mile and a half, so my 10 miler became a nice 13 miler and several of my other routes changed in neutral or favorable ways. Same trails, but in slightly different orders or lengths. I have also lived close enough to various workplaces in various towns that my running routes from home and work could overlap.

I have had pretty good luck with places to live and run, so I really enjoy going back to run old routes and find a few new variations in old familiar locales.

I miss my old running routes more than my old training partners.

Me , and at the time girlfriend would run the same route after school . As time went on, we both moved to different cities. I could not stand to be without her, so I quit a very good job with lots of promise and moved to her city. We hooked up , and I asked her to marry me . She... stuttered ... then finally said no. She had moved on, and wanted to be with some one else. I guess she met him at work. The past 10 years I have been drifting,in and out of jail and could never get my life back together.

Very much so, yes. Some of my old routes I can still run in my minds eye by closing my eyes and thinking about it. I miss many routes. I had a chance during easter weekend to run a route that I had not run in 5 years and it was awesome. It was a route that I loved and I am very glad to have run it.

I am the same as far as my courses/routes. I like to run to a wooded area or trail and then run several loops on the trail or wooded area for the bulk of my run and then run back. I am pretty lucky because I live about 500 meters from a good trail system. I am moving at the end of june but my new home is 1.7 miles from a national park. I am stoked about that!
