Sounds strange that his legs were found in water. It wasn't that warm on Tuesday depending on the time of day he headed out. There's a nice paved highway (15) that takes you to the Cliff Dwellings & since he was only a mile south of their I'm surprised it took 4 days to find him.
"His body was found near a cold stream, his legs still in the water and his water bottle next to him, about a mile southeast of the Gila Cliff Dwellings."

I never heard of the guy until a few days ago.
The story in the book was amazing, and an inspiration too. I've switched from a "short fast run" guy to a longer run guy, but I've kept on the fronts of my feet and I'm a changed runner -- enjoying it more and free of injury. Faster too!? Long may the spirit of Caballo Blanco soar.
His foot prints were 9 feet apart over his last steps...and then his body could no longer contain his spirit.
Do we know what kind of shoes he was wearing when he was found? I'm pretty sure it's been established that shoes with a greater than 4mm heel/toe drop cause aggressive foot cancer that can strike without warning.
Should have been Barefoot Ted instead. RIP, Caballo.
