Something is wrong with the 60m sprints in Istanbul

I thought the same thing about Lerone Clarke, especially when I saw that Ghasemi qualified in 6.87 with his .335 RT.

Although I haven't seen the race, it took only a 6.91 to qualify, a time the Clarke may have been able to manage if he had run his hardest, even having missed the gun.

Then again, he may have tried, I don't know.

If Castlin heard an echo and believed it was a FS, then I think she may have been right in stopping before the first hurdle. Back in the day I had to do hurdles, was in a middle lane, and twisted my ankle moderately when I had to stop because a FS was called--it sucked.

IF she heard 2 guns, that is.

She may have gotten burned on this one. What a drag.

Looking at the mens 60m heats I tried to identify a lane or lanes that produced consistently bad RT's, and although it looked like lane 8 was faring really badly, the cr@p RT's were certainly spread out well among all lanes.

Lane 8 had an AVERAGE RT of .336!!!!

Lane 8 notables who failed to advance included Kabia and Clarke--the only heat to have a normal lane 8 RT was heat 8, where Leblanc had a .145

In the semi's tomorrow, Meite, Ghasemi, and Phiri have all drawn lane 8, as well as Aleen Bailey in the women's 60m heats and Nikkita Holder in the women's 60mH semi.

But whatever--it looks like there is just general mayhem in the sprint starts.

So, seeing as the RT's seemed to get more reasonable in the semi's and finals, what happened?

Did they identify a particular cause/causes?

Did they take any corrective measures?

How could there have been such a huge difference between the heats and the final?

I don't know - but the commentators on Channel 4 (in the UK) said that there was a lot of testing of the guns and speakers going on before things got started on Sunday morning - so maybe some problem was identified and corrected?
