Ryan Hall INJURED?

I was refering to the comment that Ritz thought he could have run a good marathon in '09 off the track and half marathon training he did that year.

The year he ran the Olympic 10,000 with a stress fracture was because no one else who finished in front of him at the trials had the A standard. Kennedy had the A standard but was injured worse than Ritz and had to DNF.

my guess is you've never met the guy....lucky to get five words out of him.

as for surgery? not sure if you're aware how some injuries work, but for example if you have a tear, there's no therapy that will cure something that serious, and surgery is the fastest, and often best example. Ball may not be the very best, but he's one of the top therapy guys around for sure....his athlete recovery success speaks for itself.

I recommend you give the Skechers GoRuns a whirl or two. There is no other shoe like them.

The GoRuns are a lightweight, pliable, soft shoe, that nonetheless provide a firm raised support 'bump' through the mid-foot. This ends up gently stretching the foot plantar. Runners have claimed the GoRuns have relieved their PF condition; try googling it.

I didn't realize that the Bible says God will keep you injury free. I think he wants people to make their own choices and help themselves. He sorta just makes everything turn out alright in the end.

Funny thing is, his former coach in Mahon is also one of the best hands on therapists out there as well. Just ask anyone in the running world, he's worked on and saved them all (Defar, Merga, Deena, Meb, Kim Smith, etc. etc.)

Why doesn't Hall see a REAL doctor? Meaning, a physician? Oh yeah, that's why his current Chiro Doc has referred him out for surgery? I have no clue who is Dr Ball or why he is fantastic but honestly, I would seek out a Sports Med Doctor with an MD/DO who has experiece with runners as well. Not saying this Dr Ball guy isn't great in what he does but I personally would want someone with a medical background. Just my opinion.

I agree with Curious. Hall should see someone worthwhile like a real MD. Most of these chiros are blowing smoke up everyone's ass.

yes, Hall and others have seen a proper sports Dr...but the trouble is with most sports Drs, many have very little running specific knowledge on biomechanics, etc. They see a swollen knee, and then try to fix the swollen knee. reality is something else is out of sorts, and adding extra stress to the knee, so even if the knee is fixed short-term, issue will come back because the root cause is not found. this is something Dr Ball (as well as other therapists) do VERY well. keep in mind, 90 percent of Dr Ball's elites come word of mouth, and that speaks for itself.

somehow I doubt that the fastest American marathoner in history can't find a competent doctor.

More money for physios and doctors = less money for kids in Africa. Their priorities are in the right place.

the problem is most doctors will tell him if he wants to get better he needs to stop running and do physical therapy, probably not advice he will take.

most chiros/massage guys will tell him he can work his way through it.

the real answer is likely somewhere in the middle of those two opinions.

Its actually the Whartons who taught Terrance AIS and do the bulk of the work on the mentioned athletes , Terrance works on his crew when needed. He is very good and well trained.

And we all know how that worked out for him, right? 1982 was his last great year as a competitor. His best years occurred before the age of 25.

Do we really think he has PF or that this is an excuse for losing to Meb at the Trials? From the RW interview, he claims all the problems before the Trials and now he feels fine but got an MRI.....Hmmmm.

So, he took 3 weeks off, but didn't miss any training??
