What is Germany like to live for a year ?

americans are clean people. europeans are filthy. americans did not start out as hygienic people but during the impressionist era the u.s. copied france and started bathing, showering, washing clothes, brushing teeth, cleaning streets. after the fads of impressionist era waned, france reverted back to european ways, but americans kept cleaning themselves. even in the worst parts of town, americans are mostly clean.

streets and sidewalks in nyc, chi, la, sf, and dc, are not cracked, dog doo doo isn't everywhere, potholes and chicanes to avoid tree stumps aren't everywhere like in europe. i never seen a pile of human feces on a major walkway in nyc penn stn nor montgomery st bart but i've seen feces dumped onto walkways at than main rail stns in zurich, gare du lyon, etc. many times.

you can easily enjoy life in a place like berlin, where I lived for 1 1/2 years. The Euro brought very significant inflation, but otherwise, you can enjoy sitting unrushed drinking great beer at a bar, eating fantastic fresh pies, cakes, and breads from the bakeries, tremendous cultural opportunities, three opera houses (Lyric, German, Comic) with cheap prices, symphonies, conservatories, unbelievable museums with types of collections relatively unfamiliar in this country (e.g. ancient stuff hoarded by the German empire and modern German expressionist paintings), some distinctive period architecture and much contemporary architecture, many parks, pretty cheap apartments, and an excellent youth scene. You can bike anywhere safely in dedicated bike lanes separated from traffic, which is a great way to see the city, and on the weekends you can take advantage of the Schoeneswochenende pass to travel super cheap for up to five people throughout the country on local trains. A great way to take day trips to Dresden and Leipzig.

my car situation there was sort of interesting. Had a Mercedes (an older one that was huge). At the time also had an Audi. Anyway came home form work one day and the Mercedes was gone. i was leaving Germany in a few weeks anyway so didn't really care. Also had a BMW that went on fire as I was driving it! Lots of Germany yelling Das Auto ist auf feuer. Luckily had a fire extinguisher in the car.

Is Germany less expensive then say Belgium ?

Leipzig is a hell hole. 90% of the town is a bombed out white trash ghetto. The only thriving establishments are legal 3-story pink colored brothels. Dresden is in a similar shape. The most successful business in Dresden is the MacDonalds hambuger joint. The highways in the easterm part of Germany are empty at rush hour since nobody has a job. And all you hear is it's the Russian's fault.

as an American is it possible to work in Germany at something relatively unskilled? how have some of you spent so much time there?

no they hate foreigners, espcially polacks, russians, and turks. you have to have a skill and a work permit. unlike the other savages in western europe the germans have NO TOLERANCE for illegal American shit.

I didn't like Germany. I lived in Dusseldorf for a year. It rained almost every day. That was depressing. Everyone smokes in the bars, which made me not want to go out. Everything is closed on Sundays, and after 4 pm on Saturdays, so I was bored most weekends. I actually looked forward to going to work on Mondays.

Nice to visit the old world. You learn why our ancestors left. I've been to Serbia, Turkey, Italy, and Israel. What a rat trap.

I'm also a bit surprised, as I've heard great things in the past, particularly about Berlin and Munich. Are the people really that filthy? Similar to Mexico?

Mexico is similar to Serbia, Turkey, Italy, and Israel. Mexico is a 2nd World country. In 2nd World countries you can survive unscathed with common sense and a U.S Passport. Like don't parade around in drag, don't wear gold chains, don't show your Ipad, Ipad, and Iphone in public. Turkey and Israel are racist police states. Kurds in Turkey, and Arabs in Israel live in worse than Jim Crow conditions. Gov't police gangs and bands of citizens form posees that wander the night beating and raping minorities.
