BUT... She did adopt a little boy with autism. That is pretty cool, presuming she treats him well.

Also, in this day and age... We need to be encouraging reading as much as possible. The last line of that story makes me sick.

I think middle school is too young. The argument that kids have already heard all this may be true. The kid who checked the book out complained about the language and said that all books with such language should be banned. If it offends his precious sensibilities so greatly, why did he check the thing out? I mean, nobody takes a book out of the library without at least scanning the table of contents. Thus, I must assume that the kid brought the book home for the sole purpose of taking it to his mom so she could raise a stink.

If that is the case, then that kid is a little wiener. If something offends you, don't read it. You don't have to try to stop others from reading it just because you don't like it.

How about teaching a little respect and not worrying so much about some "bad" words in a book? It might just be old man bias, but it seems like kids increasingly disrespectful and it's not because of a book like RWTB.

A book with the f word as a chapter title should not be in a middle school library. Seriously. You should be able to send your 12 year old to school without fear of him checking out a book from the library with the major curse word in it.

Forest, VA is also part of the greater Lynchburg area and is for the most part an extremely conservative area. This is the same town that doesn't allow its biggest population group of 18-22 year olds (Liberty undergrads) view rated R movies.

This woman complainant is so out of touch it is unreal. Where is the father?

I see - a book about a group of college kids who work harder than 99 percent of college kids, and who literally go to the edge physically and mentally in trying to get better? In a world where boys are being coddled and not challenged to be mentally tough (not Rambo tough, but mentally tough) and disciplined, especially in school endeavors, this woman is completely out to lunch.

Yes, a middle schooler should have the maturity to know when to read and when to walk away. The kid clearly had this ability himself. He knew he didn't want to read it. Except instead of walking away and saying "I don't want to read this so I wont," he insisted that no one else read the book either.
