Incidentally, the American collegiate in season record should be broken this year in the 800m (1:44.70 Mark Everett) and probably also Julius Achon's collegiate record of 1:44.55. Earl Jones ran 1:43.74 out of season (June 19, 1984) and that will be tough to beat.

Christian Smith had the record from 2006 (I believe) at 2:19.57.

Who IS this kid? I'm honestly terrified with what he might do if the rest of his season goes as well as this.

How does German Fernandez not have the American Junior 3k record. didnt' he run in the mid 7:40s his freshman year? It was at Washington.

it's such a leap from 1:54 in HS to 2:19 for 1000 meters in his first college race it makes me wonder if they used the right starting line / finish line

no offense to the kid, it's just a Beamon-esque improvement it defies belief

Man, I'd love to know the fastest that he can split for the 4x400 right now. There's a listing for him in 2011 Indoors of 68.93 for 500m (looks like to open the season) and he started a 4x400 that averaged 55.x for the whole team a few days later. Those times are barely faster than his pace for this 1k!

Chem Engineering major - I hope this kid keeps figuring it out and improves. Hopefully, he's aware of the algorithm that got him to that time. I'd love to know what he did.

mile times are included because besides dawson they are all listed as freshmen or sophomores. Running 4:10 in january as a freshmen I think is pretty impressive. But you were probably a 4:05 guy in high school so 4:10 is slow for you. Get off your high horse. That is a great performance.

Is there video of this? I wonder what his splits were. Amazing time, especially from a Letsrun unknown. Their DMR could be ridiculous. Nice work Robbie!

Well, he did go to a tiny HS in Maryland not at all known for producing good runners. And he ran his 4:10 pr as a junior at NBON--he was actually leading the race at 1500 and got kicked down by Hatz, Gedyon, etc. in the last 100m.

He was poised to run even faster as a senior but he bonked at NBON and didn't seem to find the right race in the post season.

His talent was always there, but even so, this is a huge jump and I'm excited to see how he does.

Also, all 3 PSU 1k runners are true freshmen!

DMR needs a better mile. I think their Australian miler finished his eligibility and they will have to rely of Owen Dawson for that leg. So unless Creese is ready to take the anchor leg, they aren't gonna be in the hunt against the Oregons of the world.

With 5 Laps of 200 M apiece it would be very hard to mess up the start/finish line!
