Stuck, you are quite a talented troll. That's something to feel good about. Perhaps you could take the skills that have made you such a successful troll and use them to succeed in other areas.

Promise you I'm not a troll. Appreciate all your answers. I think the answer probably is to find someone who isn't so invested in running-- but then will they really be okay with me investing so much time in running? I guess it's worth a shot.

Stuck first of all I am pretty sure calling and engagement off but keeping the ring is illegal.

2nd How did LRC Girl break your heart?? You "met" her (if you can even call it that) on an internet forum..

What is "successful"? D1 female runner? Pro runner? I would LOVE to date/marry a fast female runner, especially if she were faster than me. We could do workouts together and not have to compromise our easy run pace too much. Heck, I'd settle for a 19 minute 5K girl, as their aren't too many around here. I'm curious how most men think, but it's important to me that the woman is hard-working and successful in whatever it is she does. A woman that is a professional (lawyer, doctor, businesswoman) and also runs fast would be DINO-mite!

In my experience, women that worry about these issues are hypercompetitive weirdos and should be avoided at all costs.

For a two year stretch in our now multi decade relationship, I was able to outrun my then boyfriend, now husband. I was still running collegiately, and he was at the start of an intense graduate level program, and only running very casually.

He very clearly did not enjoy struggling to keep up with his girlfriend on a 5-miler, but I think it had more to do with feeling disappointed that he'd lost so much fitness than concern about a female running faster. He has a pretty solid sense of who he is and what's important in the big picture.

Indeed...One of my ex-boyfriends has put on a lot of weight and is struggling with this issue, although I suspect he secretly always wanted his own set of boobs.

I would love, love, LOVE to meet a woman who was more successful than I am. I'd have no problem if it was in a sport, academically, musically, professionally... anything!! That kind of drive turns me on. As for running, I wouldn't mind if she were more competitive than I am.My problem, though, is that I find it EXTREMELY difficult to find these types of women. And when I do... I find that THEY are the ones with the competitive ego problems. I still haven't figured out why I bring out these crazy insecurities in the opposite gender.If I had to pin my finger on it, I'd say that it's a subset of the feminist ethos that women aren't just equal to men, they're superior. Media doesn't help as most sitcoms portray men as dumb and lazy, and women as sharp and on-task.

I'm a successful female runner (ran d1 in college) and have only dated one guy faster than me ever. I haven't found it to be a big problem. Just don't read into situations-- you don't know if a guy's ego is actually hurt or if he is willing to put this stuff past him to be with you.

Also, to everyone who said find a non-runner...this advice doesn't work for everyone. I'm pretty sure that runners or endurance athletes are my "type", simply because they actually go do things instead of bumming all day long and they are generally good, hardworking people.

hypercompetitive weirdos, huh? That's an interesting way to put it. I guess maybe it takes time to find a guy who can put his ego aside, or at least "share" success. By "successful"/"elite" female runners I guess I mean ones who have won races, run NCAA/Olympic qualifying standards, that sort of thing. I know there's not really that many around, and it does seem like those that are in relationships have boyfriends/husbands who run.

I met this gal back in 1978 or 79 who was one of the fastest road runners in NorCal at the time. She was single and so was I. We talked about getting together for a run and coffee afterward but for various reasons, it never came off.

Luckily I was faster than her at 10k but in every race where we both showed up, it was a damn dogfight to beat her. I often thought what it would have been like if were dating too.
