Yes and she is still beautiful and would be today if she were around. I just don't think she had talent.

Sadly, that's where you're wrong. True he was 42 and bloated, but he was selling out every show in Vegas. He had successfully transformed himself from black leather Elvis to white sequined Elvis. His fan base was huge; he had Graceland, hooking up with that young hottie 'Cilla, and was drafted. He had mystique about him, despite growing into a drug addicted, peanut butter and banana sammy eating, die in the crapper country swooner.
42 is has-been age for today's young stars , but go back to the 50s, 60s and 70s, my friend. People loved their Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennet, Rock Hudson, The Rat Pack, Doris Day, John Wayne, and Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. These people left legacies. When they died, people were affected. I can't explain it... maybe there are too many celebrities today. Let's face it... the only modern(?) celebrity to even come close to the mimicing the fascination of Marilyn Monroe is Michael Jackson, and by your standards (50, dyed himself white, and trying to do a comeback tour), people should have given up trying to figure out "what might have been".
I'm not saying he wasn't still popular. But the quality of those shows was hardly great. In fact, he was having breathing problems by the end.
Happens a lot when folks die pretty young like James Dean and even Pre (although I gotta say I know no one who is an enthusiast of either Dean or Monroe). Tie in a death under strange circumstances and you got a lot to go on.
Great example of Any Rand completely ignoring reality to suit her own philosophy (that was shaped by her searing hatred of communism she developed as a child in Russia). She's a great read and inspiring to adolescents worldwide, but should never be taken seriously by adults. Sheesh.
Listen to Arthur Miller if want to learn who Marilyn Monroe really was. She wanted desperately to be taken more seriously, then again didn't know what to do when she was given that opportunity. Very sad story.
