I still hold several records from the mid 80s. 400m 51.3; 800m 1:57.9; 4*800 8:03; Distance medley: I forget. I think the 1600 (4:18) and 3200 (9:20) records still stand from that same era too, although I didn't run them.

It is possible because no other runner has run faster than 9:20 from your former school.

Nearly thirty years go by and it still stands. What gives?
Suddenly every letsrunner is or was once a recordist.
wow you guys are all so cool with your records and stuff. ill brag too. i still hold my indoor 3k school record of 8:50 from all the way back in 2010. cant imagine how that is still around.
haha i laugh at the guy who set two school records, 5 years apart. nice work super senior!
honestly guys, no one gives a $hit about your records or how long they've been around. i learned this as a sophomore in high school, when i tried impressing a girl by telling her i broke a school record. she asked me how long 800 meters is and then walked away with a football guy. after that i realized that no matter how fast you are, you are still a runner and still no one gives a flying monkey poop.
8:50 is nowhere near 9:20 so don't judge...
All those record holders give us a training week for fun's sake.
9:20 has been this guys' school record for so many years because its a good time. My high school's 2 mile record is 9:17 from 1975. No one will be under 10:30 for them this year.
Even when they had good teams and placed high at state in cross country no one else ran faster than 9:28.
9:20 is probably fast enough to be a school record at 90 percent of every high school in the country.
My high school closed in the late '80s, so we all still have records that haven't been touched in 20-plus years. Not even a sniff baby!
The high school record for the mile at my school is 4:08.8 set by a sophomore in 1974. That is still the age 15 national mile record. Thirty-Seven years! That sopohmore is Jim Arriola.
The records at my high school:
1600m- 4:00:29
3200- 8:34:23
that record will probably never be broken in a school of 800 students.
those records could be broken if GF sends his kids to his old HS.
School records: 1600-4:28, 3200-9:41.
45 year old school of 2000 kids.
STILL Have mine from 1982: 9:12/4:18/2:00 3200/1600/800.....I mean the 800 is a joke and you should be able to move a 52 second quarter miler up and he could knock that off...
My 9:55 2 mile stood for over 20 years until the kid that beat it set the small division state record running 9:20.91. I don't worry that I ran a few feet farther than he did because he would have dusted me by 30 seconds in any race.
I do still have our 2.5 mile xc record of 12:28 that will never be broken as long as they run 5k.
As for the dolt wonderinig about all the school record holders here, it is a large running site that attracts the most competitive runners. Just sayin
My school's records are 9:04 and 4:15, both of which are well over 20 years old now. I don't think anyone will ever get the 3200 record
If you think about it, record holders are the rarity. If you posted one of the best times in your state, then already it is unlikely that someone from YOUR school will run that fast again for a long time. Talent pops up at other schools here and there and it could be awhile until the gene pool plops a kid into your high school that actually even wants to run track and coule potentially beat your record. Kids only have 4 years to develop in high school, but they have the rest of their lives to run faster than your high school record. Some might.
there is a much larger presence in the mile/1600 than the 2 mile/3200. For example, at my school 7 kids have broken 4:20 since 1957 and the record is 4:12.13. The 3200m record is very solid (8:55.10 by the same guy) but only one other guy has run under 9:20. And we're a school that rarely has more than 1200-1300 students.

Because you're so completely awesome and runners were so much cooler and faster in the 80s. Is this what you wanted to hear?
Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner. End of thread!!

No was has seriously challenged these two records.
Highschool was the best 9 years of your life or what? How could you run 4:13 at some age, then run 9:17 6 years later while still in highschool? Teaching there doesn't count.

Adam C probably meant "My high school's" records, not "My high school". Poor wording, but no need for you all to be asses.
My high school was founded in 1764 and I set the 3200 record in 10:24 back in 2006 (not even joking). I think I also set every record between 400 and 5k (none were fast). I did get much better in college.
