OMG YOUR SUCH A LOSER BECAUSE YOU LIKE A GOOD STORY? NUT UP BRAH, NUT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take it from someone who saw it as a kid when it first came out, the best one is "Star Wars," aka "Episode IV," aka "New Hope" or whatever the hell George Lucas is calling it now. All of the others are commentary on it.

I imagine that most or at least many folks will feel the same.
I agree.
Return of the Jedi was the best. Remember when Luke and Vader crossed sabers? Green on red with black background? Still makes me excited lol. The fight of the two ballllllas
What's the one with the Ewoks? I liked that one the best. Oh, and the Star Wars Christmas Special was also very, very good.
Happy Life Day!

In my opinion (and I know it's not popular) the best is Revenge of the Clones. And here is why:
1. Emotion. Does Episode 1 have emotion? No, it has Jar Jar. There is character development in Episode 2.
2. Action. No Star Wars movie has more action and battle scenes. Think of all those Jedi. That was awesome.
3. Humor. Real humor, not Jar Jar Binks. Samuel L. Jackson.
Feel free to downvote, or whatever you do around here.
I don't even know where to begin to criticize this post.
The first one (Episode 4)
It was a complete movie.
Beginning, middle and end
Good, personable characters
If you had to watch one, you watch that one.
Empire had the cliff hangers.
Jedi - you needed to see at least the previous one to be on track
The three prequals just didn't have much personality.
1. The Empire Strikes Back
2. Return of the Jedi until the Ewoks appear
3. A New Hope
4. Return of the Jedi after the Ewoks appear
5. The prequels (I don't care for any of them)
My favourite scene in the series is Luke staring into the sunset in ANH. Regrettably, with each re-do and visual upgrade that scene looks cheesier and cheesier. On my old VHS copy of ANH with the washed out colours, that scene is spectacular. On the high-def version, it looks like a desktop background.

I would love to see Jar Jar fight a bunch of Ewoks. Then a mad orgy breaks out.
Empire and Hope, everything else is total garbage.
This goes into the category of somewhere on the internet, someone is trying to ruin all of your childhood memories.

The Phantom Menace
The easy answer is Empire, New Hope and Jedi in that order, followed by whatever you desire for 4th, 5th and 6th places. Most fans tend to think this way because of how much awesome stuff occurs in Empire, how great -- in a simpler way -- New Hope is, how silly it started to get with Jedi, and then what happens when a talented filmmaker forgets how to write movies with episodes 1, 2 and 3.
In all honesty, I loved the Phantom Menace. Darth Maul is an incredible character of which much fan fiction was spawned. The guy is similar to Boba Fett in that regard.
I remember first hearing about Star Wars "Back On The Big Screen" when I was in 4th grade. I remember going to see ROTJ. I was in love with Star Wars. It just made sense and clicked with me.
I remember watching a New Hope on VHS & sitting under my table pretending I was captain of the millennium falcon after watching han save luke's life.
That being said, seeing Phantom Menace as a 12 year old with all the characters I had so grown to love being shown in their youth, made all the difference. Phantom Menace had the soul of a Star Wars movie, and in my opinion was very good. It hit home on the nostalgic part of my brain.
