Oh, and for those bashing her marathon performances...
Finishing top 5 in Major Marathons is HUGE. Being in the hunt for a win is HUGE. That doesn't "just happen". How can I be the only one who is hugely impressed with Kara's accomplishments (and Hall's for that matter).
Forget about times. Both of them have competed brilliantly in the marathon. I could absolutely see Kara getting down around 2:20... and being a 2:20 girl at the games, who knows how to race, definitely puts her in medal contention. And this was despite some pretty bad advice and coaching from Salazar. Will be interesting to see how she does with Jerry.
Wrt Jerry. Teg has always been injury prone... as has Jager. Solinsky gets 1 injury in 10 years under Jerry (or however long its been) and now all of a sudden Jerry is at fault?
Shalane has had a great last 12 months. Between NY, Cross, and a successful track season (she was too close to her PRs to say it was a failure. It was arguably her best 2 SEASONS ever) she's been unbelievable.
Bumbi made huge strides in year 1.
Nelson ran well this year, improving yet again.
Bairu and Koll were disappointments this year, but every year there will be some who thrive and some who dive.
Overall, though, I don't see how there is a better coach in the country then Jerry.
And he wouldn't be doing his athletes any favors if he didn't continue to lobby for resources, recruit new and established athletes, and justify his existence with his employer. Every successful businessman, coach, etc does that. If you don't, a more aggressive person will push you aside and eat your lunch.
