I would say, "That's amazing, I can't imagine being on my feet for almost 6 hours in a race". A 5:50 means she didn't walk the whole thing, she actually ran part of it, and being out there for such a long time would be extremely tough.
She finished - congratulations. The person is not Ryan Hall afterall.
One question; what is the mile pace fora 3:00 marathon?
"You're better at running than I am at most things I attempt."

Ask if she surged to drop the 6 hour cutoff sag wagon?
So that's about 13:22/per mile pace, which most of us on these boards could walk at. Worst case most would have a hard time actually jogging that slow, even between long interval sessions.
But, it is was it is and I suppose an accomplishment for her. Wonder if she had negative splits - 2:57 - 2:53...!

I GUARANTEE you most people on these boards could NOT walk an entire marathon and maintain a 13:22/mi pace.
I would be willing to bet a decent amount of money you couldn't. Especially without training. Go ahead and try it. 4.5 mph on your treadmill. You'd be hurting before mile 10.

No you can't. Almost no one walks 13 minutes a mile, and if you could it sure wouldn't be comfortable to do for 6 hours straight. That's a really awkward pace that's too slow to jog and too fast to walk.

You say GOOD JOB, and "you can go faster next time."

actually the Mr. Singh set a 90 year old record of 5 hours 40 minute.
Better than an 100 yr old, not as good as a 92 year old.
well she is a relative so how about not being a d!ck?
I gave up on running a month and a half ago. I’ve done more than a few 3-hour marathons.
It didn't take too long to start feeling the loss of fitness so I started power walking. (Not race walking) I could never do that.
That got me wondering how fast a person could power walk a marathon. I've been working on that question.
Interestingly enough I now have considerable doubt when I hear of a runner's off the cuff statement that they could have walked faster than someone’s 5-hour marathon result.
I'm almost certain that they wouldn't do it on marathon training alone. There is a whole different set of muscle pain going on between running the marathon and power walking the event let me assure you. You'd have to train those muscles first or you'd hit one horrendous wall a lot sooner than you might imagine.
It’s very surprising how quickly the heart rate responds to power walking up a reasonably steep hill and even more surprising how sore your back of leg muscles are the next day. Of course the more you train that way the better you will be at it. However I wont be in 5-hour power walking marathon condition any time soon. The fact is I’m most likely to get very bored with it long before I reach that level.
What exactly is "power walking". Sounds like a term made up by some marketing prick selling walking paraphernalia.
I honestly am not mocking walking as exercise or a mode of transportation, but throwing "power" in the term seems like a bad attempt to make the activity more edgy or tough.
Simple. Tell her shes stupid for doing it, when she could have got bigger benefits by training and running a 10k instead.
Anyone who runs a marathon in over 4hrs is just stupid. They really haven't achieved anything (although they might think they have) and have trashed their bodies for no good reason.
Quite frankly its unhealthy and they should be counseled against doing it again.
So the 4:01 guy would not have "trashed his body" if he shaved 2 minutes off his time?
Is she hot?
Ask her to tell you about it? Not everyone's notion of "success" is the same. Having once been a decent distance guy, I'd do backflips to be able to break 40 in a 5k. That may not be her story, but, it probably was a pretty big accomplishment for her.
You say, "great job. I'm not elite either." Freaking tool.
