The marathon WR in the M40 division is 2,08. It´s not like Geb can just put out his shoes on the course and collect the record.

I think it is. 2:03:38 is faster than anyone else every ran on a non-aided course, he beat the WR holder with one brutal move, Berlin is still a WMM and he seemed pretty relaxed after the race. Also, with 26, he is still young. What other reasons do you need?

Boston Mutai is still a question mark. Yes he ran 2:03 but there was a major hurricane in his back. What is he able of under normal conditions on a course like Berlin? Maybe 2h05m, maybe 2h04m? Maybe faster, but who knows?

Letting everyone run London before London for selection sounds like a recipe for desaster - too close to the Olympic games.

The IAAF gives automatic entry to defending champions. The IOC follows the IAAF's competition rules but not their championship arrangements.

If Ethiopia wants to do the smart thing...they'll let him run no matter what. He's obviously in great shape...just not good enough to run the crazy WR pace today. He's a legend...they would just lose out by putting some no name in there as their last guy instead of Haile...the whole world would lose out. Even if he doesn't finish, he makes everyone watch. How many people were up at a crazy hour today just to watch Haile?

Last year, Mutai was 7 seconds behind Makau in Rotterdam and 2 seconds in Berlin. Mutai should be able to run 2:03:xx in legal conditions, too.

Was Makau leading at 30km or was it a pacemaker and if the latter, did he finish?

Renato, Will Wilson Kipsang and/ or Moses Mosop go after the WR in Frankfurt/ Chicago(respectively)? I know Mosop is coached by you but I don't know about Kipsang. Still, Are they going there for times and the win or just the win(of what you know)?

It's pretty obvious that Mosop needs to risk everything in Chicago now. A mid 2:04 won't cut it. Will be an exciting race.

I was impressed with Paula too. Agreed that it will be Keitany vs. Kiplagat at London 2012.
