Any meet would be happy to have the US 1500 meter champion racing. Also he's in college and thus does not have to be paid. Also he won the US championship by outkicking Lagat (3:26 lifetime, probably still a 3:30-3:31 guy on his best day) Manzano (3:32) and Wheating (3:30).
If you don't see why these three things make him a very attractive entrant, you're trolling or dumb.

The US champion can and often is a complete scrub compared to the true world elite. This is one of those times. STOPWATCH.
In case you missed it, Centrowitz is seeded 17 of 18 in this race. He is clearly outclassed. He shouldn't be there. Good for him for taking the opportunity. Shame on the corrupt managers etc who got him in there.
When Centro was originally in Paris and not in the meet I first thought, "He's finding out how hard it is to get into meets" but then thought a) he may not want to run in Paris and perhaps is just there with Wheating and crew.
After a few seconds of thought, I reassessed and figured with some lobbying Centro likely could get in the meet. He is the US champ. A meet director in Europe is likely going to look at PRs and season's best on first glance but with all the other Americans in the field, could be shown Centro should be in the field.
I still could see a lot of reasons not to enter Centro in the meet. But Centro isn't showing any fear and I'm excited to see what happens.
As a fan, I'd much rather see him in the meet.

Someone has to be seeded 17th out of 18th. If you're finding 3:36 guys to fill out your meet, having one of them be a guy who recently won a national championship by kicking down three world class 1500 (as of last year, anyway) runners AND doesn't have to be paid is a no brainer.
Seriously, this isn't complicated.
Am I wrong to think even a dl event is a race against other runners and not the clock? Ok so it's not usually a super tactical race but for the top guys do they nearly kill themselves to run 3:30 or try to put themselves in a better position to get paid at 3:32? Always hating on any American runner that shows the talent to run with the best is really getting old and pathetic.

Where did Manzano run 3:32? Where did Wheating run 3:30? In some podunk B-level meet? Centro has never been in a truly Class A GL field before, so he does not have that type of time yet.
Do you know what Wheating's 1500 best was before Monaco? 3:37, even slower than Centro. And he had no National Championships at the time. Clearly he belonged in that field, but he had no time to back it up- how is Centro any different?
