That's what they can announce when he steps on the line and that's worth something to the meet promoters.

Two years ago Dorian Ulrey got in a race that was won by Kiprop in 3:31. Ulrey was 12th in 3:35.

Ulrey was 3rd at the US meet and that got him in some good races. And he did not run for Oregon.

Vin - as a coach - can talk to meet directors. The same way he would to get guys into Payton Jordan, Mt. Sac, Husky Classic, etc. Every college coach can talk to meet directors, not every college coach has an athlete who can get into a Diamond League. Plus meet directors will want him - I'm sure everyone wants to be the meet Centro drops his inevitable huge PB at.

Of course you'll say the same thing if Charles Jock or Robby Andrews or any collegiate sprinter were in a similar situation right? Yea right.

Much as I would like Centro to do well, I think he will be doing well to get under the A standard - nowhere near 3:31. And Wheating is not (yet) anywhere near last year's form, so 3:32 seems like a reach. The best bet for the Americans remains Lagat, and I don't see him faster than 3:32-3:33.

Are you a member of the Centro family? Beacause your statement above is completely ludicrous and insane. You think anyone and I mean ANYONE in that field is "excited" to be in a race where a 3:36 lifetime best American collegian is going for a PB? Even the American runners in here aren't concerned with Centrowitz. If this race is run/won in 3:30 fashion he will be all out to get to 3:35.

Also gotta remember that if a college athlete wins some cash... the meet keeps it! No appearance fees, nothing. Centro is a steal for the meet directors

Being the US Champion counts a lot. The European Meet Directors take one's result in the US Championships very seriously; it makes a huge difference in whether or not one can get into a meet. I'm not expressing an opinion here; this is the way it is.

For instance, one need look no further than Russell Brown who despite his very unfortunate USA's still has the fastest non-African 1500 in the world this year. But he'll be sitting in the stands in Paris watching his roommates run. He's got the same people advocating for him as does Wheating and Centrowitz but to no avail.

People shouldn't minimize Centro's accomplishment. He won USA's, he WON the race. He won a bunch of big races. He beat a lot of good milers. This is significant. No, he hasn't run super fast this year but he has and he will. If he doesn't get that A standard this year that doesn't mean he sucks. Remember, in 2010 only 35 men ran sub 3:35 and 13 of them were Kenyans. Folks ought to be more realistic in how they define excellence.

Lagat 3:32; Wheating 3:34; Centro 3:35.5; Leo 3:37. We'll still be looking for a 3-person Daegu team.

Oh Gawd! You are totally insane. Centro can't run with the big boys if they've got rabbits. A personal best 3:34 would be admirable.

I think you are coming down with something. Have you been putting your foot in your mouth? Like I said he'll be there coming down to the finish!

two years ago 3:36. a dominating sprint win over Bernard MF Lagat at the U.S. champs. Paris. He's worth a 3:33/4 here even if it's the first race off the plane. He may not get that right off the bat but this year. And Vin got Wheating in this race and Monaco last year and the race director had to be pretty happy about the results, so easy to trust Vin. As for Wheating, I don't know where he's at but I wouldn't think that he could run better than 3:32 now and I predict 3:33 high or low 3:34. I hope they're both faster than that, and Lagat as well, but the times will also depend on whether anyone in the field follows the pacers closely. With only Kiprop of the Kenyans in the main field there, I have my doubts about anyone following close enough to make this a really fast race. Kiprop likes to charge home the last lap from a bit back and Lagat likes to put himself in good position for the kick without leading.

If the race is won in 3:30.99 or faster, I see Centro, Wheating and Lagat all running between 3:32 and 3:34. Lagat won't go under 3:32 again, that would be a good result for him. Wheating isn't peaked nor do I think he will run 3:35+ in a fast race. Centro is just as good as both of those guys on any given day this year, as evidences by his being the US Champ.

In France his bib has to be yellow and read "JUDE"

Yes it was two years ago, bu i think people are forgetting that sometimes a 3:40's 1500 run the way centro and lagat ran it takes the effort of a low 3:30 guy. since centro closed his last 800 in 1:50 smiling across the line. I think everyone is in for a shock tomorrow! btw, Centro is undefeated since usa's 10. So just over a year now.
