I saw that fight and it was a joke. They could have gotten someone that was, at least, a decent boxer. Toney (or Tooney?) was out of shape and never that good of a boxer in the first place. This fight proved nothing.

With that said, I think most boxers probably would lose if fighting by UFC rules. But, some UFC fighters like to stay one their feet and go for the knockout and that would be a bad mistake against a real boxer.

Boxers would win if fighting by boxing rules. It only makes sense.

tyson in his prime was mind blowing, one of the hardest hitters ever.

I don't think it would be a stand-up vs. ground attack question, Tyson was so quick, athletic, and strong that with those little gloves he would get one or two shots in before it went to the ground, and that would be the end of it.

Tyson beats most UFC fighters in a pure standup fight but he would get instantly taken down by anyone with half decent wrestling. If you follow MMA, you'd realize that pure strikers lose a lot of their power when they realize they have to worry about defending the takedown. And in Tyson's case, he would have to change his footwork and stance even more because with his boxing stance, he would EASILY be taken down.

My old MMA gym would have boxers come in 1-2 times a week for sparring and boxing class. The best boxer who would come fought on ESPN, Showtime, etc. and was ranked as one of the top 50 fighters in the HW division at the time. He was entertaining the thought of trying out MMA. After one BJJ class and one MMA sparring session, he decided to go back to just boxing...

Most MMA gyms will give you a free week. Go to one of their sparring nights and try to land one punch before getting taken down. I don't understand people who will argue this but have never trained wrestling or boxing in their lives.

Look, Tyson was one of the best boxers in his prime. That's a fact. Now, COULD he have been trained in mma...Sure. But he focused on a stand up game. Really beautiful to watch. My matchups below are of equal weight fighters.

Street fight: equal - Tyson could use a weapon or fight dirty and had lots of experience in street fights

Octogon: MMA fighter - This is their territory and what they focus on. Obviously Tyson would lose. He would have a weak defense to take downs and kicks.

Boxing Ring: Tyson easily. I'd even say Tyson wins far more easily than the MMA guy in the Octogon. He's too fast, strong and talented.

On another note, take a look at this video. He Tyson goes into the psychological side of his fights. Reminds me of pre-race.

Even if an MMA fighter took Tyson down in a clinch he could mix in a rabbit punch (at 40% of full strength) and fracture their skull into bits. The skull would respond to Tyson's fist in 3 oz. gloves like an orb of glass.

Yes, a prime Mike Tyson would stand a good chance of knocking out any UFC fighter in an MMA fight. But to credit him with magical Death Touch power looks ignorant to anyone who has trained combat sports even a little bit.

Could he land a goodnight punch before an ex-olympic wrestler or ADCC champion took him to the ground? Maybe, but to speak about that situation in absolutes is idiotic.

how many UFC fights have you seen that go directly to the ground as soon as the bell rings? and you're obviously not factoring in the "gloves" worn by UFC fighters which are more to protect the fighters' hand than the other fighter's face.
