The record is still German's in my mind.

Lukas had the privilege to run with such talented athletes that helped him out (hint: he got help to break the record, he didn’t do it on his own). If the high school German Fernandez was in this race, he would have gone faster than 8:29.

Incompetence is what describes NBC's announcers. Yes, the focus of the meet is on winning among professionals, but it would take only a modest interest in track and field to note that LV had run under 8:30 as Lagat embraced Lucas on screen. It seems the announcers can only handle one idea at a time rather than see and report multiple stories in an integrated manner.

I think NBC's announcers are archaic. They need to get people informed about the sport in those roles and spend less time worrying about whether they have a velvet voice.

Was this Lindgren's record or Jeff Nelson's? I'm not even sure. NBC totally dropped the ball. I can't believe it. It is the story of the meet so far. Should have been back story and context and it would have had great general appeal for normal viewers. I say flotrack takes over from NBC.

One thing that killed me about the coverage was that the announcers thought the loud cheering well after Lagat had finished was actually for Lagat. They had no clue that the crowd was cheering for future-duck LV coming up the home stretch. Pretty disappointing.

I completely agree with your point. However, to clarify- Lukas's 8:40 wasn't alone, it was actually in a close race with Cheserek. But your point stands, LV's high school accomplishments are more impressive than GF's. Period.

i'M GLAD NBC didn't mention it. he was sucked along, a non factor. Webb's mile was more impressive as was german's solo effort.

You're being sarcastic I hope. A high schooler was in the race- big news. He was going for and set an American Record- big news.

They did a much better job with Webb when he set his HS Record.
