Downhill, sea level, tailwind vs mostly uphill, 5000+ elevation.
Jeremy Freed also ran 30:29 in the citizen's race. A regular Joe who had a mediocre career at Colorado State just tied our Great White Hope who was a star at Stanford and competed for us in the olympics. Lets break down this year so far:
NYC Half - huge tailwind 1:03:53
Boston - huger tailwind 2:04:58
that road mile- 4:17 DFL amongst B-list pros
this 10k- 30:29 ties a working non-professional
It seems when God doesn't provide him a ridiculous tailwind like in Boston and at the NYC half, he is not running that well. When God does come through, he puts out the sails and runs really fast.

No sorry you are right. That was another bad race. But it is funny that he had such great tailwinds for his two main performances. So kudos to him for halving a good run when it counted the most (Boston), but isn't it weird how he didn't replicate a performance anywhere near as good in his other 3 races?
You guys commenting on Hall's pace obviously aren't familiar with the Boulder course (uphill first 4 miles) or it's elevation, around 5400 feet. You're NOT going to run 4:40 pace here unless the 10K is YOUR event and you train at elevation.

One thing I think I've noticed about Hall is that he's an emotional runner. When he gets "up" for a race, he's unbelievable. When he's just training through a race, he's mediocre. I only expect him to be "on" once or twice a year. That's fine. It's just a personality difference from some people that are up for every race.
Really happy for Carney though. Good run as he was coming back from an injury.

Well it's a lot better than all these other performances even if you look at place not time considering he was 21st at the NYC half with mostly 2nd class although maybe some slightly 1st class competition, 4th at Boston with World Class competition(For sure 1st class), 17th and last in 2nd and 3rd class competition in a mile race, and 7th in a race with 2nd and maybe some third class competition.
Hall would have trouble breaking 29 on the track right now. He doesn't train for and shorter than they marathon. His 2:04:58 as a huge asterisk by it with all that wind.

He finished in front of Hartmann who just ran under 28:30 for 10k on the track and beat Meb last week at Bay to Breakers. HE CAN RUN UNDER 29 MINUTES.
People ridiculing Hall's time clearly don't understand what it's like to run a difficult 10k course at over a mile in elevation. The elevation alone would account for almost exactly one minute (if he was very well acclimated to the elevation, which he probably isn't) and the course probably cost him another minute or so. His time is clearly not as good as a 2:04:58 marathon, but for a non serious race at a distance he doesn't train for, that is not a bad performance for him at all. I'm sure he could easily run 28-mid on a track in a well-split race.
honestly i cant stand these posts about halls BM every time he comes up on these boards. yes we f***ing get it. He had a tailwind. I think everyone knows that. its really not contributing much.

People seem to forget that Hall was within 2 minutes of Geoffrey Mutai. Regardless of any course comparison from Boston to anything else, the Mutai of this Spring was almost undoubtedly the most fit distance runner of all time. I'd say that a white guy being within 2 minutes of that is pretty f***ing impressive. Hall's 2:04 high is legit no matter how you spin it. His Bolder Boulder 10K isn't as legit, but it's still a solid performance for an off-beat low-key race.

Hmmm. What other "American Hero" comes to mind that sucked @ss all year except for the ONE BIG event, then he was super human? I'll give you a hint: He was really into the full house daughters and is going to have an unpleasant next few years.
Right away when Boston happened and all the stuff came out about how terrible RH's build up went (sick, injured, inconsistent training) my first thought was that it was too good to be true. Well kids the saying used to be "you can't fake a marathon", that is until Amgen came up with the secret sauce, then you sure as shit can fake one. But the drug controls and race directors would be looking at a catastrophic fail if he gets popped. You heard it here first.

That's not a good comparison because the course was slightly different in 2008. Probably a little faster.
