The 1600 was not solo - Alejandro Montano of Catalina HS was on his heels for 1200 meters, then Billy gapped him.

Don't know what to say. When I get videos downloaded and posted you can just watch them and time for yourself. I can assure you Billy did not run a 57 first lap in the 1600. If you have questions about the temperatures you can simply go to the national weather service web site and pull up temp data for Fri and Sat. Anyone at Fridays meet can assure you that official temps were hovering around 100 at 4:30 pm, and it was undoubtedly hotter on the track in full sun. I really don't know the temp on Sat night but it was totally different from Fri afternoon, the sun was down, and it was very pleasant. Heat and wind were factors Fri. They were not factors Saturday. And yes, Billy was pushed hard Fri by Alejandro Montano who stuck right on Billy's outside shoulder for 1300 meters before Billy pulled away. No one ran with him in the 3200.

Billy did NOT run 57 his first lap, even in the 1600! I believe he ran 65 then cranked out 66/67 for a few laps. He definitely knows how to pace.

Thanks for clarifying. I was not at the meet and could not argue his lap times but when I first saw that post I was definitely skeptical. Had I been there and watched I would have shot down that comment immediately.

Also I don't know if this has been mentioned on the thread but he came up .31 short of the Arizona all time 1600m record and broke the all time 3200m record by a little less than 2 seconds. Arguably the best high school double of the year from arguably the greatest prep distance runner in Arizona history.

Well, they weren't too hot for our boy Eliud Kipchoge when he ran the WL 5k last year in Doha. Temperature is a poor tool to use to predict performance compared to dewpoint and sunlight. AZ almost always has a favorable dewpoint for distance running. Nothing to see here.

I too was track side during the historical event!! the record he broke stood for 28 years held by Jeff Cannada - I was fortunate enough to be in some of the same races as Jeff and we were team mates at the Pan American Games. For old schoolers like me it was an incredible, emotional moment to see Billy break that record. I was in a perfect spot nestled between Billy's Dad and one of his team mates (Brianna). I wonder what Coach Arvis' reaction was like. The races in AZ are something to see and hear: Ron Smith did a great job announcing that race and reminding the crowd what was at stake! I am so glad I was there - I don't think Billy ever comes on this site but incase: Congratulations to Billy Orman!

Arizona's Meet of Champions is taking place this coming Saturday evening, and Billy is planning on making an attempt to run at least .32" faster in the 1600. I, for one, can't wait to see it!

What kind of 400m can Billy run? I know he runs an OK 800, but does he have any speed?

53.73 is the best I've found.

I was also there on the back stretch in the stands. A bunch of us old timer coaches were stomping our feet and yelling BILLY, BILLY!! We could also hear it from the other stands when he ran by. It was pretty awesome moment.

The night was perfect though the dust from the 15,000 people walking around was quite thick, probably did not bother the athletes but my old sinuses were a mess. HAHA!!

Billy is a great kid and I admire his decision to run at Harvard.

How does Harvard keep getting good recruits? It boggles my mind. Out of all the talent that goes there they've recently produced a decent time-trialist (Gilespie) and a good time-trialist (Chenoweth), and 0 good racers. Have people outside the Northeast just never heard of Princeton/Columbia/Dartmouth?
