If your 300 number is right, your 1-2% figure isn't. You're using the number of vertebrate species as the denominator, not the number of land dwelling species (which would be much greater).
300/14,000 = 2.1428571%
300/23,000 = 1.3043478%
So, 1 - 2 % seems like a reasonable way of expressing this range in round numbers.
Also, I specifically stated that I was answering the question regarding percentage of primarily land-dwelling vertebrates.
If we include invertebrates then the numbers (rounded) would be roughly .01% - 0.2% mas o menos.
