I desperately want horrible things to happen to the Westboro folks, and even though I think we should prosecute whoever it is that eventually sacks up enough to actually take some action, I'll almost certainly silently and reservedly withhold any personal animus that I usually feel towards people who do horrible things.
I was talking to a friend about this recently, and I probably don't have it in me to do violent things to other people, but if I could find that capacity in me, I hope I would be able to direct it towards people who make the world significantly worse for everyone else.
Westboro definitely makes the world worse than an average unabashed rapist, and I tend to feel ambiguously when those guys get murdered.

No, I was just pointing out the police were not amiss in doing their job. They can't arrest anyone if they don't know who to arrest.
When I saw the title of this thread I thought it might be about RUNNERS thwarting a WBC protest. That would be a good story! Now it's turned into a political-philosophical charged argument.
The WBC simply amuse me. They tried to picket the funerals of seven children who died in a barn fire in central PA not far from where I live. Local communities swiftly organized in such a way the WBC didn't even bother showing up.
