A HS record typically gets one an extra inch for the locker room. It's the first race when they mean less.
Wow. Splits were
4:25-4:31-4:38, with a 32 last 200m.
In that first mile was a 30 first 200m, 63 400m, and a 2:11 800m.
He would have had to run 4:30's to break 14.
He would have had it, he just had to start a little bit slower. Running off of splits like that, he's in shape to break 4 and to break 8:40 and to break 14 he just needs to get the pacing right. Hopefully he'll be able to do it right for the 2 mile Sunday
HE WOULD HAVE WENT UNDER 14 IF HE DIDN'T HAVE TO RUN IN LANE 2,3 TO GET AROUND THE LAPPED RUNNERS like 10 times.

I know. I'm retarded. That's cool that a high school American kid had some pull to be able to fly to Europe and get in to a fast race. And pay for every expense along the way. I'm sure they were watching it every step so he wouldn't have jeopordized his college eligibility. They must have played it clean since he was back in the NCAA in a heartbeat.

Haha, it's funny, when I saw the result I actually thought to myself: "Hm 14:06 I thought he'd go sub 14". Then I stopped myself and realized, this is a f*cking high school kid, and this is indoor track, and the time he ran was good enough for a HS Indoor record. It does seem as if we (myself very much included) have become spoiled by runners like Verzbicas. I'm not attacking anyone on this thread mind you. I even admitted that I thought he'd go faster, but the fact still remains, we're talking about a high school senior. Sure he's no ordinary hs senior, but the time he ran is outstanding, and I'd bet he could've gone much faster. I also understand that it's a good thing to never be satisfied, and to always be hungry for more, but there also does come a point where you have to sit back, calm down, and say "oh wow that was an amazing effort". That's all.
It would have been awesome to see him go sub 4, 8:40 and 14:00. That would be amazing, and unheard of outdoors, let alone indoors.
The 5k was only added to the national scene less than 10 years ago and even then it is really only run once a season at Nationals. Kids can't get many opportunities to race it and get a feel for the distance on the track.
1) the person who made this thread needs to remove the (!)... he was breaking a record he set as a freshman, and only did it by 12 seconds... unless we are talking about a 800m, this was a poor outing for him.. i think he knows it, and frankly i hope we see better... i think he had a 13:45 in him, i really really do... but did he show it, no... 14:06 yay !! so good for lets say a D3 n00b, but not a high school elite. period mas amigos porfavo como estas seiors
