The teacher made a simple request of the kid following school policy as is her job. The student blatantly refuses. Should the teacher just back off and lose all credibility to her students?
Kid was probably already high from sniffing the sharpie in class. That would be more concern than some tagging you can paint over.

If she had to arrest a student to maintain order in her classroom, she probably didn't have any credibility to lose.
Under no circumstances was what she did the correct thing to do.
The kid was writing on paper, not the desk.
There is nothing that says that this was gang related and I doubt it was.
Even if it was, there are so many options for helping the student that could have been taken as opposed to having them arrested.
If the only way she cans top a 13 year old student from using a marker is to have them arrested, she needs a new job.

I can't believe no one has brought this up yet: the law prohibits permanent markers on PRIVATE property. A school, unless its a private school is public property. Roosevelt middle is PUBLIC. The boy has not broken a law.

The ban on sharpies was gang related. This student was turned in to administration by the teacher. The teacher didn't have anyone arrested.

Do any of you idiots actually think the teacher had the kid arrested? You see, those that do are the same ones that go and reproduce and have these little assholes that pull this shit. We are in a downward spiral and I'm not sure there's any way out.

There is nothing that says that this was gang related except for the school itself and the fact that the child was arrested for his actions. I doubt it was gang related only because I don't know how to read nor do I know how to think like an adult.
Even though it was gang related, there are so many options for helping the student that could have been taken as opposed to having him arrested, but since this problem has been ongoing for years the teacher and the rest of the administration at the school likely tried all of those options over the past few years and found them insufficient. But since I don't teach there and haven't had to deal with this crap for years I know better than they do how they should have acted.

You sir are a grade A idiot. I live in Memphis TN and went to inner city schools. I'm 24 and graduated high school. While there are problems just like this one, thugs do follow rules. Some don't but most will. There is still zero reason why a child should be arrested for having a Sharpie. Especially when most parents buy them for school. Sure the boy should have been disciplined but juvenile hall is absurd. And half of you running your c0ck suckers used Sharpies or spray paint in school. And guess what it was illegal then. So should you have your life ruined?
