Update on quake and ITM meeting:

A National State of Emergency has just been announced by NZ Govt.

Death toll stands at 55 with another 300 still reported missing and unaccounted for.

Several collapsed buildings still contained trapped people and bodies and extensive search and rescue operations still underway.

ITM meeting cancelled.

Webb was entered in 800m and is in Wellington.

Rupp was entered in 10,000m but him and Salazar have cancelled trip to NZ and will no longer run in NZ. The 27:00 pacemaker from Kenya (PR is 27:30) is no longer coming.

An athletics meeting in Wellington to raise funds for Christchurch is being arranged.

Webb is likely to run an 800m in Wellington on Saturday with Willis and Co in the Mile

It is hoped that Nick will get his Olympic Silver medal presented at this meeting.

For us non kiwis the ITM meet was the one Rupp was running? It was in Christchurch where the quake was? Willis was supposed to run the mile there? And Webb the 800?

Instead Willis will run a charity mile in Wellington instead with some of the same competitors who were supposed to run in Christchurch and Rupp has flown home?

Sorry for all the questions.

And my thoughts are with those still missing and those who lost loved ones.

ITM is in Christchurch, phtos posted on nzrun.com have shown the track as being in a very bad way.

Nick has had a massive part in organising a event in Wellington with many of the pros that are already in Wellington.

The disaster in CHCH has been horrifying for us all in NZ, 70 already confirmed dead and a rescue effort at a major site has already stopped as there has been no signs of life for many hours. There will be hundreds lost from this.

80% of the city are without water and sewage.
