I remember a kid in the 3200m at a state championship in the mid size school division had a cracked rib. In his final 150m kick it broke completely, he still won, total badass.

I had a cracked rib from falling down years ago. I could run uphill without it hurting. Try that for a couple of weeks.
I saw a gymnast compete with a broken foot so suck it up.
HelloIn 1995, I injured my ribs in an accident at work.I found the best way to run at the time was to run quality rather than quantity so as to avoid prolonged breathing which caused the most pain.Intervals such as 200's with a walk recovery will maintain your fitness, and give you a rest from the intense breathing until you can feel like extending the running time as your injury heals.Good luck

I've been running around 65 miles per week for 8 weeks, and I fell off my bike on Saturday. I ran this morning and could barely move. If I sneeze it hurts like hell. I'm 43 in good shape, What are my prospects.
I have never run with a cracked rib but I have run several times with a crack pipe.
finally...
I cracked mine more than what was probably just a hairline fracture running 5 miles and 2 days later 4 1/2 miles hard uphill - then right away it started hurting badly. Could barely get in & out of bed. But learned when SNEEZING, stand straight up and LOOK UP at the ceiling (or sky) when you sneeze, and it REALLY HELPS! Do NOT bend over to sneeze!
Rib injuries and running don't mix well. I recently had a rib cage injury and the harder I breathed the more it hurt. Took 10 days off, once the pain from taking a deep breath disappeared I started back up with easy running. I was back to normal in two weeks.
Yes, cracked a rib after wiping out on a slope. Managed to eke out a 3-mile run a few hours later while on pain killers. Could barely move myself out of bed the next morning even with pain killers. Took more than 3 weeks for the pain to subside enough to allow me to even lace my shoes.
I did it 4 weeks before an ultra,
every week it will feel 10% better.
I had trouble sleeping up until a couple days before the race, and IT didn't bother me at all during it. The first two weeks are THE WORST.
Broke 3 ribs (5th, 6th, 7th) 3 weeks ago flying down a non-technical trail and having the shoe sole snag. Figured could still breathe so the ribs couldn't be broken, ran the remaining 4km to the finish.
Severe pain by the end of the day, couldn't move the arm on the same side as ribs - checked with the doc the following day, X-ray confirmed ribs broken.
No meds but first 3 nights were horrible - couldn't lie any which way. Sneezing just as bad as already mentioned in the thread.
Started walking and climbing stairs by end of first week, also pool running (no impact). By end of second week started slow runs, not more than 90mins, with as much hill/stairs included as possible - it's not the breathing, it's the impact. Speed work still out - maybe another week. The pectoral muscles and other supporting muscles have only just stopped spasming.
Btw - 50 year old runner.

I ran a half-marathon with (not yet diagnosed at the time) two broken ribs. Bad idea - added WEEKS to my total recovery time...if I had to do it over again I'd have rested fully for a month before doing any running again. I ended up just taking two weeks off, then running again for a couple weeks, then having to take another two weeks off due to pain..you get the gist. Total recovery time was MUCH longer than if I just took the proper time at the outset. Now (6 months later), I still have residual pain on one of the ribs, which I'm sure is due to scar tissue from a poorly healed fracture from not taking the proper time to rest it. I know its hard, but try to take the time off if you can!
Similar happened to me
Depends how badly you break your ribs I found eventually a few weeks later I felt sick when running.
Hospital doc said no point x rating broken ribs as they don't treat it. Was rubbish advice as you want to know how bad the damage is. Mine still ache sometimes nearly 30 years later.
What kind of tape - rigid taping or KT tape? Looking to tape mine and keep up my mileage this week. Has been two weeks since I damaged the ribs.
Yep- endured running and performing terrain park tricks with a cracked rib. Toughens one up and separates the girls from the boys.
I crashed on my bike August 29. 3 broken ribs, ripped my knee, broken vertebra and massive volleyball sized bruise on my hip, and grade 3 + separation of my shoulder. Back riding indoors within a week, but not needing deep breaths. 30 mph into the ground to zero. According to strava. Like the ending on the Sopranos.
Its 11/10 and I suspect my shoulder was more grade 5 and is not where it should be. The ribs are good, the vertebra is ok, the knee is still bad. Looks like it'll be a permanent fixture.
Cracked ribs are more an inspiration than a handicap. A couple of weeks and they'll be fine.
What I found when running with cracked ribs was it would numb up during the run, but about 10 to 15 minutes after the run it would feel like my chest was seizing up for a bit.
I can only assume you mean the girls are tougher....as we all realize is the truth!
At my age I've fallen a lot, mostly on trails because I've always been a bit of a shuffler on the roads and I just don't pick my feet up or get my knees up high enough I guess. I never seem to get my arms out quick enough to catch my fall and invariably land with my elbow tucked underneath my body right at my rib cage. I have cracked ribs 4 times over the last 5 years, usually not watching the trail enough and looking at some scenic vista or at a deer, or other distraction off in the distance. I've only been diagnosed by a doctor 2 of those times, but they always felt identical. 6 weeks minimum to feel fully healed up, but running is okay if you can tolerate the pain. First two weeks is the worst.
I am a 76 yr old runner who recently fell after tripping and bruised my ribs. I iced them for 2 day
s and then continued my program at a more modest pace. The most significant thing I did was k tape
my injured rib areas. This action reduced 90% of pain. You can find on internet many videos that explain how to do this. I am hopefully on tract to meet my 10k personal goals in the coming months
