Ever fall off a treadmill? (Good story)

One of the scariest feelings on a treadmill is when you aren't paying attention and your back foot meets the edge of the treadmill. You don't fall off, but for that one moment your life flashes before your eyes as you think you've met the end of the world.

Anyways, I've never fallen off completely, but I did hop off one time to fiddle with music or my shoes or something and then got right back on and kind of stumbled off. It's a good idea to at least prepare for mounting with your feet on the edge strips instead of just hopping on willy nilly.

A couple of years ago, I was jumping back and forth from the treadmill to the part that said not to stand on it. Naturally I fell and grabbed on to the handles. My skinned knees weren't as bad as described by others earlier, but my shorts nearly got pulled all the way down. Quite embarrassing.

When I was in high school, we sometimes ran on the treadmills at the gym for basketball conditioning. A few of the treadmills had VERY low max speeds.

So low that you could probably run backwards. The guy next to me somehow got to convinced to try it, but instead of working his way up from a lower speed he tried to turn around with the treadmill at max speed.

He went flying off the back, but was pretty much fine until he lay down with his shoulder on the (still moving) belt. That left a mark.

I made a hole in the back of the wall when I set a treadmill to 12 mph with Absolutely no warm up and my legs being really really heavy and I wasn't really paying attention at all so even though for me 12 mph is 1.5 mile pace I flew off almost immediately as it cranked up and you shoulda seen both of my sisters they were luaghing so hard I thought they were going to choke.

it cracks me up whenever the big, muscular guys get on the treamill next to me at the gym. no matter how fast i am going, they crank up the speed to a tad bit faster than me, not to be outdone by some scrawny girl. there i am doing an easy run at 7:30/mile and they are next to me huffing and puffing to the point where i think they might pass out.

That means your shorts are way too long.

The first time I ran on a treadmill, I, for some reason, figured that I would stop running and just let the 'mill push me off the back. I didn't even know how to get off.

What happened was that I stopped running, face planted, and was shot backwards into the wall. Then two massively obese women laughed at me until I left.

At least my shoes stayed on.

never fell off one, but almost got off one one. had one in my house after i first got married and before the post nuptial shutoff began we tried it out along with the rest of the house.

definitely not an easy position, and to be honest we were unable to finish the act. she was suspended from the hand rails and i was standing. got into position with the belt stopped and then slowly started it. didn't get up to much more than a walking pace.

i would recommend you trying it if you have a suitable treadmill and suitable partner, but probably not at the gym.

however it would be bad if you fell - forget knee burns!

Yes. Some guys are so loud. They sound like a combat zone. WTF. Hate running next to them.

Like, without even looking over to diagnose problems with form, you just know that something there isn't right, because no one's footfalls should make that much noise? Yeah, was down some posh health club and set it too fast and couldn't reach the button to slow it down, didn't think to just hop on the sides. Dunno what happened next but somehow went flying off the back

Then as one of my friends said 'you did it again'!

We don't have a indoor track so to do quality work coach has us run on the tread mills. Our sprinters hop on and off at 16 mph with the thing never stopping. Every year he has the upper class man show the freshman how to do it and then have them do it at slower speeds. Every year some freshman crashes. One year a girl just stepped on it at 13mph. Just stepped. She went face down hard bounced off and spun off the back. Coach picked her up made sure she was ok ( she was shaken up but not hurt) and said well guess you are running outside from now one. She never made it the full year.

I've been injured lately, and spending a lot of time on the exercise bike and elyptical at the fitness center. There is this one girl who walks on the treadmill, at at least a 15% grade, then hangs onto the handles. hanging onto the handles kind of makes the uphill pointless, but thats not what bothers me.

What bothers me is that she steps on the plastic plate at the front EVERY OTHER STEP. "squeak, clunk, squeak, clunk, squeak, clunk, etc."

Somehow I doubt that your mile pace is {60/12=5 5*(2/3)=} 3:20.

Karma struck me.

I was on an aircraft carrier returning from deployment and the whole air wing had flown off already, so my buddy and I had the cardio gym to ourselves. He was on the bike erg and I was on the treadmill when a young woman came in and got on one of the other treadmills. She was really going at it - she looked like a soccer player, very athletic. We had the TV on, watching Napoleon Dynamite. My friend and I were laughing when she glanced at the screen and got disoriented, fell, and was tossed repeatedly against the steel bulkhead. She kept trying to get up but just got tossed against the bulkhead and back onto the treadmill. By the time we got off of our machines her sweatpants were down around her ankles and she was getting torn up by the belt in her underwear. We helped her up and got her to medical before we lost our minds laughing.

Two years later I fell off of the treadmill on the ship and shattered my shoulder - had to have total open reconstructive surgery. I'll try never to laugh at anyone's misfortune again!
