Nobody paid him $180,000 -- he went to college, spending a huge part of his time practicing, preparing for, and playing football.
How much money do you think is generated by college football? In a free market, he would be paid millions
No UncleB, he wouldnt. Because if college football were a free market system it would COLLAPSE. only 63 of the over 420 college football programs ran surpluses two years ago. (I havent seen numbers for last year). Only 19 Athletic Departments ran surpluses...in the ENTIRE NCAA. That means the other 300+ football programs already run in debt. And what do you do with scholarships? Sure Cam Newton is a stud, but what about that guy on practice squad that gets a full scholarship and will barely see the field in 4 years...do you pay him too? And then what happens to the over 300,000 athletes who are on NON-revenue sports? College budgets would be gutted to pay the football players and basketball players...you would see a LOT of schools cut their football programs, and a LOT of schools cut all their other mens sports....speaking of that, what do you do with Title IX too? if you are paying the football players, you have to pay the women too now!
