I only have two kids, and drive a small SUV (Honda CRV).
I have to say, I like my car, but SUV is a misnomer, as it's not much sport, and not the best utility. With 3 kids, it wouldn't be as practical as a people mover with a sliding door.

Do you really need a mini van or SUV?
Can't you drive a regular sedan or hatchback & put 3 kids across in the back seat?
You obviously haven't seen the size of car seats these days.

Is that a joke?
I'd go with the minivan over the SUV, but then again I have an enormous penis and could handle the accompanying blow to my ego.
buy a big ass diesel suckin Ford Excursion, kids will be safe and you will probably earn man points, rather than be deducted for a minivan. but the minivan (honda or nissan) is the logical answer. just buy something like a used harley on the side for when you don't feel cool anymore
Okay, I am thinking both the Honda and VW minivans are pretty sweet. Might go with a brand new 2010 model for about $10k off the price.
I am also looking at some super old school SUVs, like a GMC Suburban from 1988 that I could pick up for around $3k and use for in-town driving (pipe dream). Clean and new engine (redone by a friend). I think that would be fun, but we couldn't travel in it.
I just cannot see myself buying a Yukon or a Tahoe. I just feel like those are akin to buying a Hummer. 4 runners are so expensive. You should see what happens to the cars I give my wife. She would trash it in less than a week (or the kids will, I should say).
I am not scared of a minivan. I am not a suburban soccer dad by any means. I have a beard that is way too long, I work for myself and I run 100 miles a week. I don't think the van will cramp my style.
I would like my kids to play soccer though, that would be cool. I took my eldest daughter to an indoor soccer facility yesterday, but it was just to run around and get some exercise. We have had a lot of cold weather and the whole family is stir crazy. The local D1 University team was practicing in there - steadily ranked in the top 5. Piqued my interest in the sport a notch.
Mercedes wagon (w/rearfacing jumpers). Or the Mercedes non-minivan minivan.
Volvo wagon w/integrated booster seats will fit three across AND you can retrofit the rear-facing third-row jumpseats.
Or even a VW Passat wagon. Or a Ford Flex.
The world is your oyster.
No you can't. Kids take up a lot of space when they are under 5. I doubt you can get 3 kids under 5 in most SUVs. The car seats are too big and the access to the back row is too limited.

Hahahaha, nice.
Honda and Toyota have the top quality and reliability in the world. If you drive in the snow and rain those are the best two cars. Just as drivers in Siberia and Outer Mongolia. Toyota and Honda are the only cars and trucks that survive winters.

Except Toyotas blow up and start accelerating without warning. That leaves Honda.
Al Quada, hamas, Hezbollah exclusively drive Toyota trucks in their resistance war against the US Crusaders and Russian Zionistas.
Toyota supports Al Quada, Hamas and Hezbollah.
Toyota's are the best cars and truck. They last forever and ever.
I think the VW van is really a Chrysler, so look into it carefully.
No.

I have my second Toyota minivan (and this one is already 5 years old). No recalls so far on it. Touch wood (steering wheel, fake wood dash etc...)
The minivan is really your best option in this situation. The high-end ones can be quite luxurious and they drive like cars. I personally would not be comfortable driving one of those big trucks and the small SUVs where a passenger has to hurl themselves over the second row seats and then buckle themselves would not work with younger children.
