Oh, it is an official mile: straight from the Garmin. I am not just arbitrarily running for sub five minutes. Yes, there is a start line and a finish line. The line however in non-existent on the road, imaginary if you will.
100 sub 7 miles? You might be doing your easy runs too fast. But that's a different story.
I just run how I feel usually, and most times it is about 7 minute pace. Anyone who knows me well, knows I am crazy, and love to run. I have put in 140 plus mile weeks, not because it is smart, just because I like to. This 5 minute mile thing is a bet and I am going to give it an honest try for as many days as I can. I would love to go for a year, that would be awesome. All I can say is stay tuned at:

Phew. I am glad it is a FULL MILE at not really 1600 meters. Good luck today.
This is an interesting challenge, I'm curious to know what the thinking/philosophy is behind this and if other people have done this, what the benefits are, etc?
Very interesting. I'm in about 5-minute mile shape, so this would be like running a sub-6 every day for a month. That seems very easy at the start, since it's like running a mile at 5k pace or slower, but I'm sure it would get hard near the middle of the month.
I think where it gets hard is when the weather is really awful, or you are sick or something. Like imagine coming down with the flu and trying to run a sub-5 minute mile?

why not do the fast mile in the beginning of the run? wouldnt that be easier than waiting until you have already run 80 minutes?
I did this for a couple years a while back. But that was with sub 4s.
The guy who did the sub-5 miles -- on a track -- every hour for 24 hours a few years ago (at N.C. State, I think) was more impressive.
I don't know if a sub-5 each hour for a full day would be tougher. A day is just a day. To do it for a month, or a year, allows for many more things to go wrong.
The rain looks nasty, but if he runs with the wind I think he can go 4:40.
yeah, the 24 hour thing is impressive, but seems like more of a long workout. a sub-5 mile everyday for a month will take commitment. like someone said, more can go wrong, good luck to the OP!

sub 5 every day for a month is a piece of cake compared to sub 5 every hour for a day.
have you ever even been awake for 24 straight hours? have you ever run 15 (much less 24) sub 5 miles in a single day?
any decent college distance runner, even D-III, probably runs sub 5 or an equivalent (3:40 1200m, 3:00 1000m, or 2:20 800m?) several time per day twice a week in workouts and several times in a row on race days. thats 3 days a week every week without even thinking about it.
