Darling hasn't had much attention yet. In the epic 2 mile where German broke the record at 2008 NON, Darling was 6th behind Puskedra, Lowe and his teammate Rob Finnerty. He had some injury and sickness issues and it's cool to see him finally realizing his potential.
Estrada is also a talented guy overshadowed by others, but is gradually catching up. Great race, looking forward to track!
Props to Richmond men. They made the big show and placed 24th. It was certainly a surprise to me.

these have got to be some of the ugliest trophies ever. marathons, even the world championships, keep coming out with designs made by some house siding designer, what gives! how about an athlete running on a podium! how about that for change! and simple, elegant, nice, round medals.
will this finally be the end of people saying the mountain regional is the hardest region to qualify out of!

She started off strong and faded a bit towards the end of the year. All things considered it would appear most of her teamates just peaked, and she did a little bit of the opposite. It's possible she's had minor injuries, you never know. The conditions were def tougher today. She's still has a great year, and running is her drug!
How about the Stony Brook women finishing 7th? Didn't see that coming.
Also, Megan Hogan of GWU - 8th place and I think she just started XC a couple years ago (maybe a basketball player in HS?).
Wisconsin men with their D1 record 23rd trophy finish, extended its consecutive top-10 finish streak to an NCAA-best 15 straight years. Bucky now owns a record 42 top-10 finishes at Nationals.
UW’s performance also broke a tie with Arkansas to make the Badgers the lone team to finish in the top 15 for a 30th consecutive season.
Stanford has been/will continue to be vilified but lets give Derrick some credit. Could have easily gotten at least second yesterday, he stuck with and ran for his team, even when their hopes started fading fast.
It was nice to finally see Luke, Chris and German finally start to put it together at the same time. Fout too. I hope these boys keep it up.
Nice run by the Indiana team, finally got it done when it counted. Apparently their best finish in 33 years! No big star, just a solid group.

Toledo women's team for their first-ever bid with a bunch of developed mid-west kids.
The ISU crew for once again putting on a great event! With Oregon backing out of the 2011 event - I vote for a return to Terre Haute until someone comes up with a better venue which will be a tough task.

I saw Chenowith of Harvard at the last turn heading into the straightaway. Something definitely was not right with him as he was giving all he had to just lift one leg in front of the other. I think its a bit of a shame that on the LRC recap of the race they blasted him as the "biggest implosion of the afternoon" (even pointing out his last 2K was at 7:21 mile pace). They obviously did not see him the last 400 meters. I think if anything Chenowith deserves some admiration to have what it takes to make it to the finish. Sometimes it takes more heart just to finish than to win a race and I think Chenowith showed a lot of heart at the end. I take my hat off to him.
How about credit to the top teams who also field top notch track and field teams, and thus don't give all their scholarships to xc/distance runners only...Women: FSU, Arizona and Oregon; Men: FSU, Stanford and Oregon!!!
how 'bout some love for shelby greany...was 80 something last year (albeit a bad race) and improved to 12th this year
Stony brook and van Dalens. All 3 didn't qualify last year. This year
LVD 6th HVD 7th and the team 7th. Amazing improvement.
1) Dave Smith- Looking like the new John McDonnell
2) FSU men- Wow. Just Wow
3) Luke- The Force was with you!
4) Sambu and Korir- Ran like kids at Christmas opening presents they never even asked for!
5) Mick Byrne- Until Krause' last K his guys were keeping the Cowboys honest.
6) Ulrey- Puts on the Ark vest one more time, no team, running the worst possible scenario for a true miler- fartlek-paced 10K on dirt, and proves last year was no fluke. 3(a) goes to Centro for the same reasons, but he had his team and his pedigree to help him out.
7)Karen Harvey and Gina Procaccio. Used to race each other, now do it by proxy, and in the process are lifting women's collegiate running to another level
8) Richmond men and Toledo women - for reasons detailed above.
Last year Colby Lowe finished 10th, and in their post race review, the brojos said that he would probably never match that performance again and that he was more likely to finish 80th this year than to repeat that performance. This year, he finished ninth.
Now I understand that they were just using him as an example and were not doubting him personally, but I do think that he deserves some praise from Letsrun.
