everybody can take 180 strides per minute. in fact we can all have faster turnover than Usain bolt. What makes the elite elite is that they can have that rate combined with elite stride length. it is both rate and length that equal speed. we have the ability to artificially manipulate either variable, but if i overstride and break and slow my rate, or if i quicken my rate but don't move my body forward, neither is efficient.
opening up the stride could be appropriate if done with proper techniqu and without negatively affecting rate.
but it could also be detrimental if not previously coached so the ahtlete can hear the cue and execute properly
