Stanford 1-2-3 stunner at Pre-Nats

OSU looks real tough right now. Much can change over a month or so but, if the race was run right now, I think they win pretty comfortably.

I looked at the video clip. It is so brief that it is really hard to tell if GF is "jogging" as you say or if this was a near 100% effort.

Personally I hope you are right and GF is capable of putting 30 seconds between himself and a very good Lowe. That's what it will take to challenge for the win at NCAAs. I just can't really tell much from the Chile Pepper video.

Wait! Wait. So, who's going to win comfortably, Stanford or Oklahoma State? Both claims have been made. At least Stanford has some evidence to back up that claim, where's OSU's?

Stanford looked like the favorite last year. They may be the best now, but nothing matters but your performance at nationals. If they run that good, they will win, but remember last year's disaster. OSU has yet to finish with a strong team. And German Fernandez has yet to run good at Nationals, if he doesn't pull out again. OSU will maybe be 4th or 5th. Oregon can finish strong, so I say a fight between Oregon and Stanford.

This is NOT meant as a knock to the above comment but just a starting point for my thinking on it.

Unclear here what all the references are (who gave the finger and whose metaphor is it?). However, I read it as someone saying that their performance gave the finger, not that the team actually did. The context is that last year things went horribly wrong on race day and so the finger was being given to that situation.

I do agree that this last weekend told us some interesting bits and indicates that this is still a very interesting year despite some stellar performances by some of the players for the big guys. OSU and Stanford seem most dominant. Oregon and Wisconsin both answered some big questions and looked more solid (except is AJ in the top 3-4 and how much better does that make them?) without enough other players to provide context.

You cannot take Indiana lightly, as the one guy (Hubers) that ran a bit below where he might have at the addidas/Wisconsin Invite showed up big by being their number 1 finisher.

Some other mens teams showed up, including Oklahoma, although clearly they are not at the level of their in-state rival.

Other teams have left questions, either by finishing with mixed results or by not having people running and so the questions are can they run and at what level? NAU fits as the prototype here with missing stars and at least one injury to a major player.

i am better than every runner stanford has. how's that for a middle finger?

Everyone (except me) that has posted on this thread needs to find something to do with their free time because it is obvious none of you work (like me) and take collge classes (like me) and train 10 hours per week (like me).

As the OP, I think it is clearly intuitive to even the most casual observer that the quote, "basically gave the rest of the U.S. the middle finger...with that performance" obviously did not mean that Stanford disrespected anyone. It was an equivocal statement meant to metaphorically evidence the extreme character of their victory. I can't believe I am actually taking the time to explain this obvious concept.

Big Boy, we all know what a MIDDLE FINGER is and what it signifies. Now, if the Stanford boys had used a THUMBS UP, that would be an entirely different story...and much better received here than a middle finger.
