Don't worry bro. You guys have been going out for 2.5 years. She will NOT break up with you. She'll probably put you in the doghouse for a few weeks at worse. You'll have Christmas, New Years, and Valentines to make things up to her. And NO WAY she wants to spend those holidays "single/broken up".

Go with the girlfriend. Its just a freaking race. There were will plenty of more races for you to run. Races come and go, but girlfriends are a treasure and should never taken for granted. Please make the smart choice and spend time with the girl. It will mean so much to her. Plus who know she may reward you by trotting her body right over to yours, if you get my drift, wink wink!

Find a Turkey Trot near you and invite your friend to that instead

Why would you want to eat Thanksgiving dinner with an old college buddy and his family? Stick with your girlfriend. Go out drinking with your college buddy some other weekend.

Go to the race, with or without the GF, depending on if you want to take her and if she wants to go. It will probably be easier to go on your own because (1) she can be with her family and (2) you won't need to put up with her.

Say hello to your friend if you wish, but skip the mindless beer crap.

Go back home when the race is over (and you've said hello to your buddy) and spend there rest of the day and evening with your GF and her family. Be sure to fit your family in there somewhere too, even if it's just to give them a call.

Most guys on this message board don't seem to actually like women. I don't mean that they don't like the idea of having sex with them; surely they'd do so if by some miracle they got the chance. But they act like women are disposable and expendable ad interchnageable.

A girlfriend you actually like and whose company you enjoy is a wondrous thing. There are always race to do. And after age 23, getting plastered with the guys is kind of pathetic.

To clarify this, if she's excited to go to the race and you'd like her to go then go to the race together with her.

What I meant was, if she is trying to hassle you about skipping the race or something mental like that, then definitely do not take her with you.

As long as all is well though, then I would take her with you, and skip spending any time with the boozer.

Exactly, what do YOU want to do? Again don't worry about her breaking up with you especially with all those holidays coming up. Plus IF she does you'll save yourself a TON of cash.

Spoken like a lonely person who had to resort to Match.com to finally meet someone (congrats on ending your dry spell).

Don't take being a twenty-something for granted (best time of my life, and you're still young enough to do something stupid and not look "pathetic")

The true "treasure" would be the girlfriend that would be "cool" with you hanging out with your buddy (assuming it's reasonable like once a month or less). (Obviously it's a 2 way street, so if she wants to go her friend's bachelorette party in Vegas, guess what your answer will have to be.)

If your girlfriend becomes your wife, you'll have her the rest of your life. Conversely there are NOT plenty of races to do or times to hang out with your buddy. You'll get older, slower, flabbier. Your joy/tolerance for alcohol will diminish (the last bachelor party I was at, guys (30 to 40 year olds) were alternating between beer and water). Turkey trots (and Mud Runs) are usually more festive and NOT like your average local 5K road race.

After you're married you'll have even less freedom to go hang out with your buds. Plus they'll get married and be in the same "ball and chain" boat. You'll have kids, priorities will change, friends move away, you move away, have less time to train, get a nagging injury, etc.

Again ultimately, do what YOU want to do. At least now you have a choice (college bud or GF). Later on "life" will NOT give you those choices. Take it from a 40 year old married guy.

Go do the run then have dinner with the girl friend. Turkey trot rules you are supposed to run the turkey trot in the morning then spend time with the family in the afternoon/night. Holidays are about family but for runners you can spend the morning kicking ass and running races because nothing really happens in the morning on thanksgiving. Go down another time to "clean out the beer tent" with your bro. It always embarrassing when people get hammered on the holidays in front of the family, probably worse if its not even your family.

Problem is, if he's "pulling and praying", chances are he's going to end up having to marry her, or at least paying child support - especially if he pisses her off by not spending a holiday dinner with her.
