It very well may not be fair to the other competitors given the nature of Semenya's advantage that they must face off against Semenya head to head, but now that the iaaf has ruled on the case I don't see how they can go back on that.
I find it mildly amusing that the other female competitors take such a strong stance towards this issue. I wonder how they would feel if CS was not a world champion and had not run 154 previously and had not just cruised to a ridiculously easy win. Caster was cleared to compete as a woman (saying that she is a he is ridiculously offensive) and the only reason the other competitors take issue is because she is just flat out better than them. What these other "competitors" should take note is that CS does not hold the world record, nor on the grand scheme of things is her time particularly fast. A 154 would have a hard time winning a Texas, Cali, or multiple other state championships. They should take it as a call to arms to train and compete. Not run their mouths while their eyes shine with envy. If Tyson Gay could get people to believe Usain Bolt was an alien and therefore not eligible to compete as a "man" he would probably be all over it.

This is a rare condition, which is why it hasn't come up before. New CS's aren't going to be "popping out of the woodwork".

There is no freakin' way anyone should tolerate it when she breaks the women's world record. Let her compete, whether female or male races, but don't count her as female and eligible for female medals/records.
Girls don't run 1:54. Freakshows and dopers do. Semenya is easily a 1:52 or better runner when she's actually trying.

As to running 1.54 - if you can run 52sec for 400m (as Peirce and Uceny are supposed to be capable) then you should be able to run 1.54 - that's a 5sec differential,57-5=52 (which even my HS boys can do, and is what 400/800 guy Rushisha is at as well, and no one is claiming his endurance is great). So in fact there should be more women at this level anyway - if they had competent coaches.
Didn't we go through this "man thing" two years ago with Jelimo (1.54 at the same age) and Mutola for years. Just becuase they don't conform to the stereotypical "Playboy" notion of how women are "Supposed" to look, they must be men? The IAAF has approved her to compete - as one poster said - so sue them as they are ultimately responsible. Otherwise STFU and leave her alone. Can you show me where the IAAF has characterized her as 51% female and what meaning this has anyway. How female are you?

I think it's fine when society can recognize and accept hermaphodites or transgendered people, as most have now accepted people like Khloe Kardashian and Rumer Willis.

There is not such thing as being 51% male or female. The difference is very big. Someone else posted that they thought it was something like an order of magnitude of difference. A female might be 5-10% male, but not more than that. A male might be 5-10% female, but not more than that.
I think Semenya looks very much like a male but all the testing shows that she is very much within the definition of a female. There is no boarder line she is at. She is not in the 20%-50% male range. That is why she has been approved to compete as a woman. Genetically that is where she falls.
Have y'all read what Science of Sport has to say about this, including Semenya's leaked test results?
Semenya was dealt a tough hand at birth. But if we let her run, might as well eliminate a separate competition for women.
