You may not be training at the proper effort levels if LT and long runs leave you at this level of near psychosis.

As Harry Callahan once said, "A man's got to know his limitations." You have to train within yourself if you want to make it to the Golden Palace of the Himilayas. If you burst through the envelope on long runs and tempos you are just running yourself into the ground.

I feel like crying in the last few miles of the marathon. Feels like a ton of pent up emotion especially when I know I am near the finish. And I usually wind yelling at the crowd or at no one at all to get it out.

Yes, when I saw how slow I'd become in 30 years.

Flagpole, you didn't cry at the birth of your children? Or you did and were ashamed of it?

Question: Are you ever sad enough to cry when you are not running or not coming back from a run? It is possible to be over training and become depressed as I did when I was working out too much. I felt profoundly sad at times.

Nope. I didn't cry. I was extremely happy and anxious about whether they were healthy or not, but I'm not generally a "happy" crier.

I probably would give a new father a pass on this though depending on how he did it...deep sobbing, no (I mean get over yourself already), but shedding a tear or two, ok.

After a long run, I never had this. But then my longest training run was only 2h40m.

That would be tears of embarassment at being a "loud whisperer"!

I find glycogen depletion can bring that feeling on. Combine that with borderline overtraining and it gets powerful.
