unfortunately, clayton's 2;08 and 2;09 prevented other runners from receiving credit for world marathon bests, eg ron hill's 2;09.xx 1970 commonwealth win and ian thompson's 2;09.xx commonwealth win in 1974, 1980 olympic silver medalist that ran a low 2;09 in early 1980...perhaps at rotterdam...cannot remember his name at the moment.
