Presumably because he thinks they are not capable of achieving world-beating times via legitimate training methods. That said I don't think Aouita was doping at the height of his career, and I'll eat my hat if Cram was too.

what if it was just a misunderstanding based on translation/language issues, since English would have been probably Aouita's third or fourth language (and the Aussies's second. ha, ha)? Coming from that program, it's credible that Aouita doped w/steroids, maybe when he shifted to the heavy weightlifting program around 1987, but obviously there was no EPO available at that time, to my knowledge.
