This is without a doubt the best way to go about it. All these ideas about running all out and then scarfing down 6 burgers are idiotic. You have an hour. Run and eat at the same time, you can do a 7-8 min miles with walk breaks for eating. You will never be winded and the eating will be very spaced out.

A Big Mac contains 576 calories. Six of them contain 3456 calories- about the same as a lb. of fat. You'll have to do your homework to get ready for this one.
My advice: Get the running out of the way and start eating. If you have to, dunk 'em in water like Takeru Kobayashi does his dogs. Contact Adam Richman of Man vs. Food. Although he doesn't look like a runner, I bet he's got some helpful ideas.
Try a practice run or two with varying amounts of Macs. If three is killing you, you'll have to train harder before the competition.

This actually seems like a really good approach to me. Eating a burger every mile seems like an absolute disaster. You seriously think you can complete a mile with 5 big macs in your stomach (and most likely coming back up your throat)? No chance. You can walk and eat no problem though. Run those 4 miles - 6 minute pace. Then briskly walk while chowing down on your burgers. This actually sounds appealing to me. This approach has been the first one to actually make me quite hungry.
Also, if you buy them the night before and you're allowed to do whatever you want with the burgers, why don't you blend them into a big mac shake or slurpie? A big mac shake would, I guess, still taste like a big mac, but it would definitely slide down the ol' gullet easier, especially after a four miles on the road.

Yeah I thought of this, possibly a camel pack and large straw, but it was decided it would not be allowed.

Ever put some thought into how those "patties" are created? They don't cut tidy little circles out of the cow's buttocks. Plenty of blending has already occurred.

I think I would go with a 4 mile run, followed by 2 miles of eating and walking. Or, 5 miles of running followed by 1 mile of eating and walking.
Might as well kill two birds with one stone.

Yeah some good strategies have been brought up. I may have to have some race specific training to see what works.
Eat the patties and soak the buns, they will be nothing to you!

Now as for the bet, I like the plan of running 4miles then walking the last 2 while eating the burgers. The hardest part will be keeping those bad boys down, because just eating 6 Big Macs in 1hour alone sounds awful. Hope you have a strong stomach...
Here is how I would do it. When you are training eat a big mac right before you run. Get your stomach used to the feeling. After you train probably wouldn't be a bad idea to have a big mac either. Maybe your body will even begin to crave them post workout.
Race Day.
Walk a half mile @ 14 minute mile pace while eating your 1st Big Mac (7 min). You should finish before 7 minutes. In that case start running and "bank" this time for later.
Run the next 3.5 miles @ 6 Minute pace (21.5 min)
Walk the last 2.2 miles @ 14 minute mile pace (30:48) while eating the last 5 Big Mac's. That is one Big Mac every 6 minutes.
12 Seconds to spare + any time you have from finishing your first Big Mac early.

I was also gonna suggest the 5 mile run + 1.2 miles of eating and walking. Seems it may help with the digestion as well.
awesome thread. maybe they should have an event like this going on during the prefontaine meet as a time filler to cutaway to. set up a road course that ends at hayward with a mcdonalds stand. i would honestly rather watch this than half the events anyways
The Big Mac 10 km Classic. It's got potential. Which elite would be favorite?
Eat 2 in say 3 min, run 2 miles in say 13-14 min. Eat another 1 in 1 minute. The next mile will probably take 7-8 min due to fullness. You're at 25 minutes or so. Get through the next 3.2 in a decent 25-26 minutes, giving time to drop some friends off at the lake, then eat the remaining 3 burgs in the remaining 7-8 minutes. This is the 2-1-3 approach. Now the question is how are these burgers going to be placed in the course? You can't just leave Big Macs around town willy nilly.
